Slayer is a skill that allows players to kill monsters that may otherwise be untargetable by players (players would be prompted with a message stating they do not possess the required Slayer level to attack the monster). Players must visit a Slayer Master, who will assign them a task to kill certain monsters based on the player's Combat level. Slayer experience is awarded each time the player kills an assigned monster, and is equal to the monster's Hitpoints multiplied by its experience bonus.
Many players primarily train Combat by completing Slayer tasks, as Combat experience is still given as normal while fighting Slayer monsters. At higher levels, Slayer becomes more profitable, as higher-leveled slayer monsters tend to have more lucrative drops both in common and uniques. Some bosses are additionally unique to Slayer and can only be killed when assigned it or their lesser category as an assignment.
After completing a set amount of tasks, players will begin to earn slayer reward points, which can be used for a wide array of purposes, such as beneficial buffs on specific tasks or some cosmetics.

Introduction
A good in-game introduction to Slayer is provided by the A Porcine of Interest quest.
To receive a Slayer task, players must visit one of nine Slayer Masters throughout Gielinor. All but two Slayer Masters have a Combat level requirement, and the final Slayer Master also has a Slayer level requirement. The tasks assigned are generally appropriate for the Combat level of the player, assuming they use the highest level Master available. Players may be assigned normal monsters to kill, or they may be assigned monsters that require the use of Slayer-specific items to deal damage or Slayer-specific armour to prevent stat reduction.
The Slayer equipment necessary to kill Slayer monsters can be purchased from any Slayer Master. When you get your task, you can ask the Master for advice on killing the assigned monsters, and they will tell you if special equipment is required. If no special equipment is necessary, they will give you other tips or advice such as if the monster is weak to poison or Magic.
Players can check on the current status of their task through various items; beginners will likely be introduced to the enchanted gem, which can be used to contact Slayer masters and provide information about task progression. They cannot be used to get a new task from the Slayer master. Alternatively, a combat bracelet can be used, although it will only update task progression every ten kills made.
After completing a task, the player is awarded slayer points (if they have built up a sufficient streak) and are advised to get a new task from the Slayer master. They will either need to return to them in person, or those with access to Astral Contact may telepathically communicate with them to get one.
The Slayer masters vary in the level of difficulty of their assignments; several of them require certain combat levels, although players are able to toggle this on and off freely if they desire. If a player is unable to complete a task and cannot cancel it, they must go to Turael. Resetting a task this way will reset the slayer task streak to 0. Turael is additionally unable to reset a task if it is something that he assigns, such as kalphites. Masters are shown on the map with a yellow skull icon.
Note: Skipping assignments through Turael is not a recommended choice, as it's better to gain Slayer points from doing tasks in a row and spending it on blocking or skipping your current task without breaking your task streak, as Slayer points also allow you to buy useful items and perks.
Slayer Masters
A handful of Slayer Masters dot the map; each Master gives assignments oriented towards a general range of Combat levels.
| Name | Image | Location | Requirements | Details |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Turael | None | South-east Burthorpe - Games necklace teleport or Hot-air balloon
Turael's tasks are simple, small, and easy to find. These assignments are excellent for the Slayer with a low combat level, but his assignments yield such low experience that most players find him unsatisfactory. However, Turael is willing to replace an assignment given by another Slayer Master with an easier one, if the task to be replaced wouldn't normally be given by him (for example, he will replace a player's Black demon task but not a Crawling Hand task). This ability results in more players using his services than normally would. If the player has completed While Guthix Sleeps, he is replaced with his sister, Aya. | ||
| Spria | A Porcine of Interest Quest | Draynor Village - Amulet of glory teleport
Spria shares nearly the same task list with Turael, though she can also assign sourhogs and cannot reset the player's current task streak. | ||
| Krystilia | None | Edgeville - Amulet of glory teleport
Krystilia's tasks are monsters found within the Wilderness. Only monsters slain within the Wilderness count towards her tasks. She will assign players any task on her list without regard to the player's Combat level. Monsters killed during her tasks have the ability to drop Slayer enchantments and Larran's keys to compensate for this. Assignments from her have a separate task completion counter to standard assignments, so players will have to complete five of her Slayer tasks to begin earning Slayer reward points. | ||
| Mazchna | 20 Combat, Priest in Peril |
North-east Canifis on the bridge - Ectophial, fairy ring CKS or Kharyrll Teleport (can be via house)
Mazchna gives fairly easy tasks too, but sometimes he may give a very small amount of more difficult monsters. Mazchna also has the habit of giving assignments which can be completed very close to him, making it convenient to get new assignments once completed. During While Guthix Sleeps, he is replaced by Achtryn. | ||
| Vannaka | 40 Combat | Edgeville Dungeon, east of the Wilderness gate - Paddewwa Teleport or Amulet of glory
Vannaka is one of the most popular Slayer Masters. His tasks are usually suitable for slayers with medium and even high combat skills. He can also be found on Tutorial Island, where he is the Melee and Ranged combat teacher. | ||
| Chaeldar | 70 Combat, Lost City |
Zanaris Fairy Queen's court - fairy ring hub
Chaeldar is infamous for sometimes handing out dangerous tasks. | ||
| Konar quo Maten | 75 Combat | Mount Karuulm - fairy ring CIR then run north.
Konar quo Maten is the fourth hardest Slayer Master. To receive Slayer tasks from her, a combat level of 75 is required. Unlike other Slayer Masters, her Slayer tasks also include the location in which she asks you to slay. However, she will not assign any tasks in the Wilderness, as Krystilia already does this. Additionally, when on a Slayer task assigned by Konar, all kills on task have a chance of dropping a Brimstone key, which opens the Brimstone chest beside Konar. The chance of getting this drop is scaled by the combat level of the NPC players are fighting, and the key is granted in addition to the primary drop you would receive. | ||
| Nieve | 85 Combat | Tree Gnome Stronghold, near the magic trees and the southern bank.
Nieve is the third most difficult Slayer Master. If players have completed Monkey Madness II, she is replaced by her little cousin, Steve. | ||
| Duradel | 100 Combat, 50 Slayer, Shilo Village |
Shilo Village, top floor of the Fishing store - fairy ring CKR, Gnome glider, Karamja gloves 3 or the Shilo Village cart system
Duradel is the second most difficult Slayer Master. His assignments are generally high-levelled monsters, both in combat and Slayer levels. He also assigns waterfiends. If the player has completed While Guthix Sleeps, he is replaced with his daughter, Kuradal. | ||
| Mortimer | 100 Combat, 70 Slayer, Fallen From Grace |
Wyrmscraig Cavern, near the mooring point - Teleport to boat, Slayer ring, Necklace of passage, or Ardeaglais teleport
Mortimer is the most difficult Slayer Master. His assignments exclusively focus on monsters with superior variants. Unlike other Slayer Masters, Mortimer offers a choice between multiple task options, initially 2, but increasing to 3 after 50 completed tasks from him. These tasks provide special modifiers, offering certain bonuses. However, his tasks are more expensive to skip, only offer 2 block slots, and cannot be replaced by taking an assignment from Turael. Mortimer's tasks have a separate task completion counter from other Slayer Masters, and only give reward points if a points modifier is chosen. |

- ^ 1.0 1.1 1.2 Although the Facemask requires level 10 Slayer to equip, the player cannot hurt Dust devils until level 65 Slayer. Similarly, the Witchwood icon can be equipped at level 35 Slayer, but players cannot harm Cave horrors until level 58 Slayer. What's more odd is that the Nose peg can't be worn until 60 Slayer, but the Slayer helmet, which contains a Nose peg, can be worn at any level, as long as the person has sufficient Slayer reward points to buy the ability.
- ^ 2.0 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 2.6 Cannot be equipped and thus do not have a Slayer level requirement to use, but are only useful at these levels, as that is the level their respective monsters require.
Slayer monsters
Where to slay monsters
Note that many assignments have alternate monsters that can be slain instead.
Boss Slayer
Some Slayer assignments have qualifying boss monsters. For example, players assigned to kill Hellhounds can choose to kill regular Hellhounds, or they can kill the Hellhound boss Cerberus, granted they have the required Slayer level of 91.
Additionally, players who have unlocked the Like a boss ability via spending 200 Slayer reward points can have Nieve/Steve, Duradel/Kuradal, Konar quo Maten or Krystilia (Wilderness only) directly assign them a limited selection of boss monsters in addition to the tasks they already assign. Slayer Masters will check the requirements needed to access the boss; for example, if the player doesn't have 85 Slayer, they won't offer them an Abyssal Sire task. The Slayer master will allow the player to decide the amount of bosses they wish to kill for that task, ranging from 3 to 35 (up to 36 for Barrows) per task. The maximum assignment can be increased by completing Combat Achievement tiers, up to a maximum of 65. In addition to receiving Slayer experience for each qualifying kill, completing this type of assignment will grant an additional 5,000 Slayer experience after the task is complete.
When looking to benefit from the use of a Slayer helmet when hunting items from a boss, standard tasks are likely preferable to boss-specific tasks as they are generally much longer. Conversely, killing a boss during a boss-specific task may result in more Slayer experience per hour than a standard task due to the bonus experience awarded when the task is finished.
A particular boss may qualify only for a boss-specific task, only for a standard task, for both, or may have no qualifying assignments.
- ^ The deranged archaeologist may be killed as an alternative to the Crazy archaeologist, unless the Wilderness is specified as the task location when given by Krystilia or Konar quo Maten.
- ^ 2.0 2.1 When assigned a Tzhaar task, the player chooses whether the assignment should be killing a normal amount of Tzhaar, killing TzTok-Jad once, or killing TzKal-Zuk once. The player must have killed TzKal-Zuk at least once to choose him for the task. The required kill count for the bosses increases to 2 and 3 with completion of the Master and Grandmaster Combat Achievements respectively.
Honourable mentions:
- While General Graardor isn't a goblin, his minions are. So if you get a goblin task, you can do General Graardor and his minions count.
- Vet'ion's Skeletal hellhounds count for hellhound task
Slayer Partners
Slayer Partners were introduced to Old School RuneScape on 7 May 2015, which allows two players to work together on a Slayer assignment after inviting your partner to be your Slayer partner by using an enchanted gem, Slayer ring, or Slayer helmet on them. Take into consideration that both you and your partner need to have no task assigned to be able to partner up correctly, if you try to partner up whilst either one of you has a task it will not work.
There are a few restrictions to prevent players being given tasks that they should not get. You will only be given a Slayer assignment that you have unlocked, have the Slayer and Combat level to complete and do not have blocked. If these criteria are not met then your partner will receive the task but you will not. You will be notified if this happens. Note that players that have unlocked TzTok-Jad and TzKal-Zuk will not be offered to slay him once instead of the number of TzHaar given if they are partnered.
Players can dismiss their Slayer partner at any time by using an enchanted gem, Slayer ring, or Slayer helm to open up the interface.
Ironman Mode players are unable to participate as a Slayer partner, unless participating within a Group Ironman team.
Following several incidents of unintended methods leading to much higher exp rates than intended, the Slayer partner system was discontinued in an update on 12 June 2020. Later on in the April 2023 Game Jam, a Group Slayer system was developed which could both function in the Group Ironman Mode as well as replace the original Slayer Partner system. Later, in a blogpost on 1 August 2024, there were plans made to re-introduce the Slayer partner system, with new restrictions to reduce the possibilities of abuse. Finally on 14 August 2024, the Slayer partner system was reintroduced with several major changes to receiving and completing a task with a partner.
Receiving a Task
The issues regarding exploitation and boost abuse from the previous iteration have been addressed, ensuring that both partners can enjoy the assigned tasks. Several changes have been made to improve the experience:
- When a player is tasked with obtaining a Slayer assignment, only their personal block list will be considered.
- The assigned task will be one that both players in the partnership are able to complete.
- The previous requirement for one player to possess a higher Slayer level than their partner has been removed.
- Concerns about certain difficult tasks being blocked were acknowledged, resulting in the minimum limit of total combined tasks by Slayer Partners being adjusted from 10 to 15, based on player feedback.
- If a player already has a task, they will not be able to partner up until that task is completed. This ensures that the partnered task is suitable for both players. Additionally, Iron players will be unable to form partnerships, though Group Iron players may team up with other members of their group.
- The game now remembers the partner if either player logs out, allowing the task to be paused or completed solo if desired. However, should one partner claim a new task whilst the other is offline, the partnership will be dissolved.
It is possible to cancel the current task at any time, though both partners must cancel to receive a new one.
Completing a Task
Provided that both players remain within 30 tiles of each other and are on the same world, Slayer Kill Count credit will be shared between the partners, facilitating faster task completion.
To prevent abuse, tasks will only be considered complete for both players if each has contributed by killing at least 20% of the required monsters. The exception to this rule is instanced boss Slayer tasks, where only the kills made by one player will count towards the task.
Slayer Points are distributed proportionally based on the percentage of the task completed by each player. For example, if one player kills 60 gargoyles whilst the other kills 40, the 15 Slayer Points would be divided between the two players: 9 for the first player, and 6 for the second. If both players killed 50 gargoyles, each would receive 8 points, as the game rounds up in this case, granting an extra point compared to solo play.
To maintain fairness, Task Streak bonuses are applied separately to each player. For example, if two players killed exactly 50% of the required monsters each for a Krystilia task, and this was the 10th Krystilia task for Player A, they would receive 50% of the base Slayer Points (about 12) and the full 100 point bonus for completing 10 tasks, for a total of 112 points. However, Player B is not completing their 10th task for Krystilia, and as such only receives 50% of the base Slayer Points, but does not receive any of Player A's 100 point bonus, for a total of 12 points.
When completing a milestone Slayer task (such as your 10th, 50th, or 100th task), the Slayer Master awards a bonus point total — for example, Konar awards 90 points for a 10th task.
In solo Slayer, players receive the full 90 points.
In group Slayer, this point total is split into two components:
72 bonus points – awarded in full to each player.
18 base task points – shared between players based on kill contribution.
For example, if Player 1 gets 20 kills and Player 2 gets 14 kills out of a total of 34, their contributions are:
Player 1: 58.82% of the kills → receives 10.59 points, rounded to 11
Player 2: 41.18% of the kills → receives 7.41 points, rounded to 7
Thus, Player 1 receives 72 + 11 = 83 points, and Player 2 receives 72 + 7 = 79 points.
This explains why in group Slayer, players may receive less than the full 90 points on a 10th task — only the 72 bonus points are guaranteed per player, while the 18 base points are divided by contribution.
Upon completing a task and receiving the associated points, partners can choose to continue slaying together with a new task or pursue their activities individually.
Slayer reward points
On 12 December 2013, Slayer reward points were released. Slayer reward points may be earned after having completed five tasks in a row without having a task changed by Turael. However, players may cancel a task by spending 30 points. Tip: You may want to use an expeditious bracelet to complete the first five tasks faster.
Points can be spent at any Slayer rewards shop on items and unlocks including unlocking new monsters as a Slayer task, a Slayer ring, the ability to combine all Slayer headgear into one item, the Slayer helmet, and even the ability to prevent players from being assigned a specific task forever.
Since getting good tasks worth keeping isn't guaranteed, it is suggested that players get their first four assignments from the Slayer Master Turael, and then get any other assignments from higher Masters like Duradel.
After getting five or more tasks in a row, Slayer Masters will hand out points when players finish their tasks. The number of points varies as the difficulty of the Slayer Master increases.
Every 10th, 50th, 100th, 250th, and 1,000th task, a special bonus is given to the player's Slayer reward points, the bonuses also differ in points to each Slayer Master. Whenever a task is done the player will be notified on what number task it is, and the total amount of points they have. This can help players plan to what Slayer Master they prefer to go next, to maximise the number of Slayer reward points in the shortest amount of time.

After earning enough points, players will be able to buy rewards with earned points. (See main article for more details)
The Slayer helmet combines the stat boosting qualities of the Black mask with the protective Slayer headgear facemask, nosepeg, earmuffs, reinforced goggles (should the player have finished A Porcine of Interest), and Spiny helmet, with the defence bonuses of a rune full helm, making it the best melee helmet option for slayers. This allows for monsters like aberrant spectres and dust devils to be killed while having the bonuses of the 15% Attack and Strength increase. Players can also imbue their Slayer helmets via the Nightmare Zone, Emir's Arena or Soul Wars. This gives all the bonuses of the Slayer helmet, while boosting Ranged and Magic by 15% as well. The Slayer helmet's effects do not stack with a salve amulet or salve amulet (e) for a bonus on undead creatures, such as aberrant spectres. The Slayer helmet has a better bonus so it is recommended just to wear the Slayer helmet and an amulet of your choice (unless you have yet to unlock the ability to create the helmet and use the nose peg for example; then a salve amulet is recommended).

Temporary boosts
Players can boost the Slayer skill in order to be able to kill higher-level Slayer monsters. If the player's Slayer skill drops below the threshold to kill a monster while fighting it, the player will stop attacking the monster and will be told they need higher Slayer in order to attack it. Boosts do not allow players to acquire tasks that require a Slayer level above their base unboosted level.
