The dire gryphon is the superior variant of the gryphon. It has a chance of spawning after purchasing the unlock Bigger and Badder for 50 Slayer reward points from any Slayer master.
Dire gryphons are tougher than their ordinary counterparts, but have a similar drop table. Like their ordinary counterparts, they are cannonable.
Fight overview
Like normal gryphons, the dire gryphon is primarily weak to melee. A tortugan shield is highly recommended for the fight, otherwise the player will take heavy damage and receive the chat message: The gryphon's attacks are devastating! You need some sort of protection! It is also capable of still throwing the player backwards after stunning itself if they do not counter-attack it in time.
The attack is countered by having the player's equipped weight be 40kg. When the attack fails the following text appears in the chatbox: "The gryphon tries to pick you up, but fails thanks to your heavy equipment."
Drops
In addition to 100% drops and tertiary drops, superior slayer monsters will always roll 3 additional items, of which only 1 roll may be from the superior unique table. The other rolls are performed on the regular counterpart's table; their displayed drop chances represent a single roll.
