A beginner scroll box.

Scroll boxes are a stackable variant of clue scrolls, in which opening them will give players a clue scroll of the same tier. However, they do not share the one hour despawn timer that clue scrolls have, instead possessing the normal despawn timer of three minutes. If a clue scroll is already in the player's inventory or bank, players will receive the message, The clue box refuses to open - you already have a clue.

Upon completion of X Marks the Spot, scroll boxes are obtained in place of clue scrolls, and are stackable up to a certain limit depending on the number of clue completions; this cap, which includes scrolls and scroll boxes, starts at 2 for each clue tier, and can be increased to a maximum of 5 by opening the following scroll cases:

  • Minor scroll case - increases the stack limit of scroll boxes by 1 for a specific tier.
  • Major scroll case - increases the stack limit of scroll boxes by 1 for a specific tier (for a total of +2 with the minor case).
  • Mimic scroll case - rewarded upon defeating the Mimic, and increases the stack limit of scroll boxes by 1 for all tiers.

Your current scroll box capacity can be checked at a Treasure Trail Statistics board.

Players who completed enough clue scrolls to be eligible for a case prior to the 2 July 2025 update that added scroll cases will have the cases in question be automatically opened and added to their collection log.

Minor and major scroll cases are rewarded upon reaching the following treasure trail completion milestones for each tier:

Tier Case Type Required Clue Completions
Minor Case (+1) 50
Major Case (+1) (+2 total) 100
Minor Case (+1) 100
Major Case (+1) (+2 total) 200
Minor Case (+1) 100
Major Case (+1) (+2 total) 250
Minor Case (+1) 50
Major Case (+1) (+2 total) 150
Minor Case (+1) 50
Major Case (+1) (+2 total) 150
Minor Case (+1) 25
Major Case (+1) (+2 total) 75

If players reach their current cap and successfully roll for a scroll box, a game message in the chatbox will state You have a sneaking suspicion that you would have received a [tier] scroll box.

Scroll boxes combine when dropped on the same tile. If a player tries to pick up a stack of scroll boxes with more than their allotted capacity, a message in the chatbox will state One of your scroll boxes was destroyed as you have too many of that tier. or Some of your scroll boxes were destroyed as you have too many of that tier. depending on how many scroll boxes were destroyed. This also happens if a player tries to use telegrab to get more scroll boxes.

If a player tries to pick another scroll box whilst at max capacity, a message will state You can't take any more of that tier of scroll box.

Scroll boxes can also be obtained in Deadman Mode when a stockpiling charm is in the player's inventory.

There are six types of scroll box:

Trivia

  • For players who are clue juggling, opening a scroll box when you have a clue scroll of the same tier on the ground with some number of completed steps will reset those completed steps to 0.
  • Scroll boxes were first featured during Leagues; during the Twisted and Trailblazer Leagues, players needed Treasure Seeker in order to obtain scroll boxes; however, since Shattered Relics, it is a passive given to all players.
