The Echo Dagannoth Kings are a more challenging variant of the Dagannoth Kings that are accessible during the Demonic Pacts League. To fight them, the player must carry a Fremennik echo orb, which is dropped by the Dagannoth Kings.
Mechanics
The fight consists of echo variants of Dagannoth Prime, Dagannoth Supreme and Dagannoth Rex. The Echo kings share a health pool of 1,800 hitpoints. All three are immediately aggressive regardless of where the player is standing in the arena. They will be off-ticked, allowing you to pray against all three of them. They follow a 5-tick attack cycle; on the first tick Prime attacks with magic, the second tick Supreme with ranged, the third tick Rex with melee, then no attacks for the final two ticks. If Rex's attack is staggered, he will delay himself to align back on sync with the other Kings' attacks.
Upon spawning, Prime and Rex will simultaneously use all three protection prayers, while Supreme will have no prayers. Every 250 damage taken, the cave will rumble and the surrounding spinolyps will launch spines across the arena, including one aimed at the player's position when used. Standing on poison will deal 6-7 damage every tick and inflict a poison status that starts at 2 damage. Unlike those in the standard and slayer caves, these are not attackable. Additionally, the Kings will swap prayers. Rex will be next in line to drop prayers, then the next instance will be Prime, after which it loops back to Supreme.
Upon reaching 350 health, the enrage phase begins; all of the Kings will drop their prayers, and poison will start to fall every 4th tick right after the melee hit. Once the health pool is fully depleted, all three Kings will die.
Strategy
Use Prime to time your prayer switches. Damage is calculated when the animation starts, so if you are not praying properly at that time, you will take damage. A lot of mistakes with prayer switching happen due to panic or moving too fast, so try to get used to the rhythm instead.
Since the fight operates on a consistent 5 tick cycle, the following pattern can be followed always and is necessary for the enrage phase:
Starting the cycle with Pray Mage up and on Prime's animation tick:
- Switch to Ranged
- Switch to Melee
- Switch to Magic (Prepares for the next cycle)
- Move (to avoid acid)
- Click to attack (This tick is a 1-tick pause from the DKS)
Acid is only ever thrown during Prime's attack and, during phase 1, only at set health intervals.
Follow the 1 action per cycle rule. During phase 1, there is a 2-tick window where the player does not have to worry about prayer switching. Use that to relax.
During enrage, if you find yourself in poison, do not panic. It does not do that much damage (5 damage per tick). Stay on cycle and move out during the next cycle. Missing a prayer switch will cost a lot more health.
Tips
Players should keep combo food in the event of a missed prayer, as the Kings can deal quite high damage.
Like the original, Echo Rex is not immune to binds and players who are struggling to flick all three Kings can choose to freeze him with (if playing ,
or have the Grimoire relic) to keep Rex off them for a short duration, allowing them to focus more on Prime and Supreme. Prayers can be bypassed with sufficient prayer penetration, although the Kings' high defence stats mean that investing into accuracy nodes are recommended if hitting them with other combat styles.
Try to prioritise Protect from Magic if flicking cannot be maintained, as Rex and Supreme will generally be less accurate and the latter has a much lower max hit.
Players with tier 6 magic or melee mastery can alternatively ignore the unprotected King and focus on the King they are strongest to, though this will be slightly slower compared to killing them normally. Tier 6 range mastery will not have this issue and can simply focus on the unprotected King during the entire encounter.
Once enrage phase starts, it is important to keep moving to avoid getting hit by poison launched by the spinolyps. Likewise, the player should change target to the King they are strongest against, to end the phase quickly before the poison pools become too overwhelming.
Drops
Dagannoth Kings (Echo) roll the same drops as regular Dagannoth Kings, in addition to a roll for one of their unique echo items. The player must deal at least 1 damage to each of the Kings in order to receive the full amount of loot (i.e. a drop from Rex, Prime, and Supreme), otherwise they will only receive a drop from the sole King targeted.
- ^ In addition to having a 1/25 chance to drop, players will always receive V's helm on their 50th Dagannoth Kings (Echo) kill if they haven't received one yet.
Past appearances
This boss has appeared in a previous temporary event:
- Raging Echoes League
- The unique drops were the amulet of the monarchs and the emperor ring
