Corrupted Hunllef (Echo) is a more challenging variant of the Corrupted Hunllef that is accessible during the Demonic Pacts League. To fight it the player must have a Tirannwn echo orb in their inventory when entering the Gauntlet. This item is dropped by the regular Corrupted Hunllef.

Killing the Echo Hunllef counts as a corrupted gauntlet completion for both League Tasks and Combat Achievements.

Mechanics

The Corrupted Hunllef (Echo) encounter does not include a preparation phase. Instead, players are dropped into the Corrupted Gauntlet beside the Hunllef room with all three perfected corrupted weapons, perfected corrupted armour, fourteen paddlefish, two egniol potion (4), and a crystal dagger (perfected), which is unique to this fight. Although tools can be retrieved from the Tool Storage, the player cannot leave the starting room and boss room, and cannot gather more supplies.

Compared to the Corrupted Hunllef, the echo variant has several distinct mechanics:

  • The boss has an attack speed of 4.
  • It initially prays against all three combat styles at once. Using the crystal dagger's special attack will disable this temporarily. At 75%, 50%, and 25%, if this prayer has been disabled, Hunllef will begin praying against all three combat styles again.
  • Every 4th ranged attack, there is a ~50% chance for the boss to instead launch a 'prayer inversion' projectile that will deal significant damage, disable all active prayers, and drain prayer if the player's overhead protection prayers are enabled when it lands.
  • Permanent roaming orange tornadoes are present in the room from the beginning, moving clockwise around the edges of the room and diagonally from the corners. One is present at the beginning of the fight, with an additional tornado spawning when Hunllef is at 75%, 50%, and 25% health, for a total of four by the end of the fight. These appear in addition to the temporary homing tornadoes the Hunllef normally uses.
  • Each auto-attack hits twice.

The unique drop of the Corrupted Hunllef (Echo) is the crystal blessing, an ammo slot item that expands the damage bonuses from crystal armour to melee weapons and all magic powered weapons, along with +2% magic damage and +20 Magic attack bonus per crystal armour piece equipped.

Strategy

The highlighted tiles cannot turn orange during the last phase, which may be helpful when tornadoes are not active.

As soon as the Hunllef spawns, it will quickly activate all three protection prayers and summon one orange tornado that starts in a corner of the room. If the tornado spawns to the north-east, it is recommended to wait for it to pass by the barrier before entering, or the player will find themselves taking unnecessary damage and having their prayer disabled. These tornadoes are coloured orange and do not chase the player like the other tornadoes. Instead, they move slowly throughout the room, tracing the outsides clockwise and diagonally through the middle. Being hit by a orange tornado will deal normal tornado damage and disable the player's prayer. If disabled, the player's prayer can be turned back on immediately. An additional tornado will spawn upon hitting the 75%, 50%, and 25% health intervals. Tornadoes summoned in this way will always be in sync with the existing tornadoes.

Safe spots for the final phase of the regular Corrupted Hunllef and Crystalline Hunllef fight are still valid, and will never be hit by the additional, always-present tornadoes.

Triple Prayer thresholds

At the start of the fight and at 75%, 50%, and 25% health, the Hunllef will pray against all three combat styles simultaneously, spawning another orange tornado. Use the crystal dagger's special attack to disable the Hunllef's prayers. The triple prayer will trigger at the player's next attack after the threshold is reached. Damage from minion does not trigger triple prayers. The Hunllef's prayers will remain disabled until it is attacked again, at which point it will immediately pray against the style it was hit with. If prayer penetration is not used, it is recommended to attack with the style that is not being used so it will pray against it.

Prayer Inversion attack

In addition to its regular attacks, the Hunllef gains a 'prayer inversion' attack which it may use as the last attack in its Ranged attack cycle, before switching to Magic. This projectile is an orb-like object with stripes of normal and dark blue. The player must turn off their overhead protection prayer before the projectile hits them. If the attack lands with an active overhead protection prayer, the player will take up to 35 damage, have all their prayers disabled, and lose around 25-30 prayer points. The message Your sacred connection is painfully severed! appears when this occurs.

Damaging floor patterns behave as they do in the standard Corrupted Hunllef fight. Corrupted Hunllef (Echo) will also summon tornadoes that chase the player as normal, with maneuverability severely restricted by the roaming orange tornadoes. Corrupted Hunllef (Echo) also features the standard version's stomp and prayer-disabling magic attacks.

5:1 method

Due to the addition of demonic pacts, using the standard 5:1 method can be significantly advantageous to maximise the uptime of attacking with a strong style.

Echo hits do not count towards the attack count before Hunllef changes prayers.

Prayer penetration

While significantly slower than the 5:1 method using the player's primary combat mastery style, an easier method is to utilize prayer penetration pacts to completely ignore the triple prayer mechanics at each threshold. This lets the player focus on the Hunllef's attacks and dodging the tornadoes rather than thinking about weapon switching and special attacking with the dagger.

If prayer penetration is used to ignore the mechanic, it is recommended to have at least 75% penetration, although 100% will make the fight significantly easier.

Dodging orange tornadoes

Since the orange tornadoes move in a consistent pattern, the room can be divided into "safe" tiles, where the tornadoes will never hit you, and "dangerous" tiles, where you need to dodge the tornadoes. Rather than tracking the location of the orange tornadoes and dodging them, it can be easier to simply never stand on the dangerous tiles, meaning you will never be hit by the orange tornadoes.

The dangerous tiles are those around the outside edge of the room, and the tiles diagonally from each corner, leaving a triangle of safe tiles on each side.

Drops

Corrupted Hunllef (Echo) rolls the same drops as regular Corrupted Hunllef, in addition to a roll for its unique echo item.
