Overview
No herb patches are available in the starting area. Players will have a pestle and mortar included in their starting equipment.
It is recommended to wait as long as possible until hitting the maximum experience modifier possible (tier 7) before training Herblore.
Herblore is modified by the following relics:
Banker's Note allows players to note and unnote ingredients anywhere in the world. This is useful for mass cleaning/producing herbs/potions, cleaning up to 25 herbs per inventory. Up to 12 potions can be made at a time with Banker's note, or 27 for secondary stackable ingredients. Multi-ingredient potions such as super combat potions are limited to 5 at a time.
Overgrown offers many benefits to Farming which also aid Herblore, such as full protection from disease for all patches, a chance to save seeds for herbs and secondaries, as well as the ability to automatically harvest and replant crops when they are fully grown.
Friendly Forager provides herbs whilst doing gathering skills such as Fishing, Woodcutting, and Mining. Herbs are placed into a forager's pouch which functions as a herb sack. Additionally, secondary ingredients have a 90% chance to not be consumed (stacks additively with other sources), and created potions contain 4 doses instead of 3. Potions created by using ingredients on an already made potion benefit from this effect, meaning decanting their base potions into one dose potions with Bob Barter essentially quadruples the amount of potions made (e.g. decanting a 4-dose super restore into four 1-dose super restores, which then can be used to make four 4-dose Sanfew serums). This relic power is arguably the most important for Herblore training, as some secondary ingredients can be extremely hard to come by depending on player regions.
Production Master allows players to clean all herbs, and make all unfinished or finished potions (except for those with stackable secondaries) in their inventory in one action.
Pocket Kingdom can be used as an easy source of grimy herbs as well as seeds for herbs and secondaries.
Training
The most useful potions to create for training purposes are the prayer potion, super attack, super strength, super defence, super restore, and saradomin brew. Alternatively, players may train by creating herb tar although it will be difficult to obtain enough swamp tar to sustain this method.
Depending on region, players will find some ingredients more easier to obtain than others; Wilderness✓ provides large amounts of secondaries such as red spiders' eggs and limpwurt roots and Wine of Zamorak,
Fremennik✓ for snape grass and white berries,
Desert✓ for potato cacti. Picking
Friendly Forager makes these ingredients last much longer, making herb collecting a higher priority.
Water-filled vial packs may be purchased in the starting area from Jiminua's Jungle Store or Obli's General Store, see additional sources.
Zahur may be paid 200 GP per item to clean herbs and create unfinished potions.
Obtaining herbs
Herbs are usually obtained from Farming or certain PvM drops. In the starting areas, they can also obtained from the Herbiboar Hunter activity on Fossil Island.
If Asgarnia✓ is unlocked, players can purchase magic secateurs, which increase the number of herbs obtained from farming and Herbiboar.
If Kourend✓ is unlocked, planting an Attas seed will increase the chance of saving a harvest life by 5%, therefore increasing herbs obtained from farming. Fighting Echo Hespori can provide these in large quantities.
If Friendly Forager and
Power Miner are selected, then the Rune essence mine fills the pouch quite quickly.

Obtaining bulk secondary ingredients
The following table lists sources of secondary ingredients that are obtainable in high enough quantities to be valid training methods:
Mastering Mixology
Mastering Mixology is a Herblore minigame found in Aldarin . The minigame requires
60 Herblore to begin, with all recipes available at
81 Herblore. The minigame can be a good method to utilize lower level herbs and does not require any secondary ingredients to train. Many useful rewards can be obtained from the minigame, such as the alchemist's amulet, prescription goggles, potion storage, and aldarium which is used to make goading potions and prayer regeneration potions.
Potions
Not all potions are easily creatable or obtainable with all region unlock combinations. In particular, the ranging potion, super attack potion, and antifire potion have rigid region requirements due to the scarcity of their secondary ingredients.
Secondary ingredients locations
The following table lists sources for secondary ingredients in the starting area if available, and common sources from other areas:
- ^ 1.0 1.1 1.2 Coconuts are farmable with level 68 Farming. It can also can be obtained from nature implings with level 58 Hunter.
- ^ Cactus spines are farmable at the cactus patch
with level 55 Farming. It can also can be dropped by nature implings, requiring level 58 Hunter.
Restrictions
Certain potions have obscure region requirements in order to create them, due to quests or difficult to obtain ingredients.
Dwarf weed is useless, unless a player unlocks the Desert, Asgarnia, Kourend, Morytania, or the Wilderness to access Wine of Zamorak, or can access the Mastering Mixology minigame in Varlamore.
