The oily fishing rod is a unique fishing rod made during the Heroes' Quest by using blamish oil with a normal fishing rod. However, players do not need to have started the quest to make this item. An oily fishing rod can be used with fishing bait to catch raw lava eels and infernal eels, which is required during the Heroes' Quest itself, as well as the Hard Wilderness Diary.
The equipable version of the fishing rod, the oily pearl fishing rod, can be made by using blamish oil on the pearl fishing rod (bought with molch pearls from Alry the Angler).
Players can remove the oil from the fishing rod with a cleaning cloth. If lost in any way, players can make a new one by buying a sample bottle from the general store in Canifis, obtaining a thin snail or fat snail and using it with a pestle and mortar, combining the blamish snail slime with a harralander potion(unf) to make blamish oil, then using it on a fishing rod.
This version of the fishing rod can also be added to the Tackle box.
Limitations
Although the oily fishing rod is converted from a normal fishing rod, it has several limitations on what it can and cannot do.

- Catch Infernal eel
- It can be used instead of a normal fishing rod during the Shadows of Custodia quest.
- It cannot
- Catch regular types of fish such as raw herring or raw pike
- Retrieve the Ring of charos during the Garden of Tranquillity quest
- Fish for Giant carp during the Fishing Contest quest
- Fish for Whitefish at Hemenster during the Land of the Goblins quest
