Infernal eels are members-only fish that can be caught within the city of Mor Ul Rek. Catching them requires a Fishing level of 80, granting 95 Fishing experience per eel caught. In order to catch infernal eels, an oily fishing rod and bait while wearing ice gloves or Smiths gloves (i) are required. With a hammer, these eels can be cracked open to extract fourteen to twenty Tokkul, one onyx bolt tip, or one to five lava scale shards. Furthermore, there is a relatively high chance of obtaining clue bottles when fishing infernal eels, ranging from approximately 1/917 to 1/829 depending on your fishing level.
Because they are located in the inner city, they can only be caught once a player has proven themselves worthy enough to enter the city by showing a TzHaar guard guarding the entrance a fire cape.
There is an "Eat" option on the eel, which results in the following message in the chatbox: Removing the eel from the lava has caused it to harden. You don't want to test your teeth against one of these.
Upon smashing an infernal eel, there is a 2/35 chance of receiving onyx bolt tips and a 4/35 chance of receiving lava scale shards. Per eel, the average profit is 488.69 coins (not including the average value of ~14.09 Tokkul at 146.16).
When using a hammer on the eels to smash them, the first eel in the inventory will be smashed regardless of which eel the hammer was used on. While this will auto-smash the entire inventory of eels one by one, rapidly using the hammer on the last eel in the inventory will speed up the smashing process immensely. It is even possible to smash multiple eels in a single tick using this method.
When compared to monkfish, no banking is required, and they provide only slightly less experience of up to 35,000/hr. They can provide profit for ironmen through onyx bolt tips when fletched and alched, as well as providing Hardcore ironmen and Ultimate ironmen a way to obtain lava scale shards without the dangers of lava dragons. Overall, for regular accounts, infernal eels give lower experience and greater profit.
