A big shark is an abnormally large shark caught while fishing at any harpoon/big net fishing spot, requiring 76 Fishing to catch (or 96 Fishing and 76 Strength for barehanded fishing). Players have a 1/5,000 chance to receive a big shark in place of a raw shark;^[1] catching one results in the game message You catch an enormous shark! instead of the usual You catch a shark! If fishing with a fish barrel, a big shark will be placed into the inventory.^[2] Additionally, big shark cannot be cooked, nor will catching one complete the elite clue scroll step given by Sherlock.

It can be stuffed at the taxidermist in Canifis by using the item on her and paying 5,000 coins, returning a stuffed big shark. When players take it to her, she will tell players "That's quite a fearsome shark! You have done everyone a service by removing it from the sea!" Once stuffed, it can be mounted at a mahogany display within the skill hall in a player-owned house, granting 70 Construction and 350 Fishing experience.

The benefits of Rada's blessing and spirit flakes will cause two big sharks to be caught at once if either item activates.^[3] The additional big shark will not be counted in the collection log if this happens.
