General store

The general store is a type of shop placed in many locations in Gielinor. Unlike specialty shops, general stores usually accept all tradeable items, making them a useful place to sell miscellaneous goods that do not have a dedicated store. General stores are identified on the map by a pot icon. Many general stores have both a shop keeper and a shop assistant, both of which can be used to access the shop stock.
Staples
Each general store carries a few commonly used, inexpensive items. It rarely runs out of these items for long, as they tend to restock quickly. The following is the most conventional inventory for a general store:
Most general stores available in the free-to-play map area also carry the following:
Other common items for the general store include:
- Rope
- Knife
- Vial of water
- Pestle and mortar
- Candle
- Unlit torch
- Cooked meat
- Bronze pickaxe
- Bronze axe
- Iron axe
- Spade
Anything goes
In addition to regular stock, players may sell any tradeable item to a store, so the general store in each town will often have a stock of the local specialty, though any item can be sold to any location. A player can buy any item in the general store that they want if they have enough money. Bargains may sometimes be found from players unaware of typically higher street prices, or in too much of a hurry to find a buyer.
Player sell prices
When selling to a general store, the price when it has no stock of that item is the low alchemy value, i.e. 40% of the item's in-game value (the item's stock price when buying from a specialty shop). The minimum price the player receives for selling any item is 10% of the item's value, so 25% of the item's initial (low alchemy/general store) price.
Every overstocked item causes the selling price to decrease by a certain percentage of the item's value. Since all free to play stores have this value at 3%, this causes the minimum price (10% of the item's value) to be reached after the store is overstocked with 10 of that item, the lowest value is 0.3% reaching the minimum after 100 items.
For example, tiara has a value of 100 coins and a Low Alch price of 40 coins so the first tiara is sold for that. The lowest price that tiaras go for is 10% of item's value which is 10 coins. Each sold tiara decreases the price by 3% of 100 coins = 3 coins.
Note: The general stores in the Wilderness Bandit Camp (Bandit Duty Free General Store), and in Rogues' Den (Martin Thwait's Lost and Found) will buy items at a high alchemy price, which is 60% of its value, or 150% of the price offered in normal general stores. The general stores in West Ardougne (West Ardougne General Store), Pollnivneach (Pollnivneach general store), and the Legends' Guild (Legends Guild General Store) will buy items at 55% of their value, or 137.5% of the price offered in normal general stores.
Note for members: Given the combinations: the Martin Thwait's Lost and Found is the best place to sell items up to 10 at a time, up to 44 items the 55%-1% stores give the best value (for example the Legends Guild General Store). If selling more items at once the Void Knight General Store and Jennifer's General Supplies offer the best prices given the low change value. If selling tiaras (with the value of 100), selling 10 gives 550, 550 and 423 and 100 gives 1,660, 2,045 and 2,525 respectively.
Player buy prices
When buying items from a general store, the price starts at 127% of the item's value with 1 item in stock and decreases by 3% (in F2P) with each extra item stocked until it reaches 30% of the item's value at 34 items in stock.

Trivia
- Despite having the general store icon, Bandit Bargains in the desert bandit camp and Bedabin Village Bartering in the Bedabin Camp only buy and sell items that are stocked by default, rather than accepting any tradeable item like other general stores.
- The Shantay Pass Shop and Ali's Discount Wares sell several items typically found at general stores, but only buy the items stocked by default.
- The Bunbridge General Store and its cunicular shop keeper could be accessed in Bunbridge during the 2020 Easter event. Curiously, the shop's stock was not identical to the Lumbridge General Store, with the latter selling knives and spades.
- If players sell too many different items to a shop, it can fill up, preventing new item types from being sold. Players who attempt it will receive the message “The shop has run out of space.”
