Wyrmscraig is an island in The Lonely Sea located in the Unquiet Ocean that requires 62 Sailing to access. Designed as part of the Sailing skill expansion, it was the winning entry of the "Sailing Player-Designed Island" competition held in early 2026. The island is characterised by its unique basalt column geography and its ties to the Icyene race. The island is inhabited by humans, though a small group of trolls lives underground. Wyrms of various types dot both the surface and caves. The island's inhabitants prefer to keep to themselves, seeing outsiders with disdain unless they gain the trust of the village mayor.

On the island, players can start the quest Fallen From Grace, which upon completion allows access to a repeatable mid-level boss, the Mad Angel. Additional features of the island include Mortimer, a Slayer Master who exclusively assigns tasks with superior Slayer monsters; golem crafting, a Crafting method that makes use of hunter furs; and goat hunting, a Hunter method.

Inhabitants

History

Long before Wyrmscraig was settled, it was inhabited by a dragonkin named Orthacas. They had witnessed the sunstone monolith fall from the sky and land on the island, and abandoned their projects to investigate it. They discovered the stone had mysterious regenerative qualities, and attempted to use it to create a new type of wyrm. It is not clear if they succeeded, but they are responsible for the presence of wyrms and lava strykewyrms on the island.

The island was then left uninhabited until Lowerniel Drakan's conquest of Hallowvale during the Third Age. Elessia, an Icyene who was captured and subjected to vampyrification, escaped and fled Hallowvale with her companions. Searching for both a cure and an isolated location where she could not hurt others, they soon discovered and settled on Wyrmscraig.

While on the island, the pyrophoroi experimented with the sunstone, discovering it was very effective in the creation of golems, though they were not able to figure out how to command them. Elessia's condition continued to worsen; her companions, believing that she could be cleansed through faith, constructed the cathedral of Ardeaglais to serve as a place of worship. Ultimately, the cathedral would become her prison, the vampyrification running its course and transforming Elessia into a bloodthirsty beast.

Her companions remained on the island to make sure the church stayed sealed, and left her offerings of human blood to sustain her. Over time, knowledge of Elessia faded into myth, and she would come to be known only as the Mad Angel. Most residents of the island believed her to be just a folk tale, though some of the more superstitious islanders continued to leave her offerings of blood as tribute, believing the Mad Angel would serve as the island's protector in exchange. Recently, she gave into her hunger and killed a boy named Keenan, and decided to leave the island so no one else would get hurt, leaving behind an Icyene-shaped golem to defend it.

Trivia

The logo used to promote Wyrmscraig in social media and newsposts.
  • Wyrmscraig was designed by the player ScreteMonge under the pseudonym RoseNMcGeet.[1]

  • With the island drawing heavy inspiration from Irish landscapes and culture, the name "Wyrmscraig" is a combination of the Old English word wyrm with the Irish word craig and translates to "Wyrm's Rock".[2]
