Backwater

Backwater is a sea in the Shrouded Ocean, between the Isle of Souls and Feldip Hills. It is fed from the River Dougne from the north, by Chompy Marsh, and connects to Zul-Egil to the west and Breakbone Strait to the south. Polluted water from the Poison Waste is also leaking into the sea and is the cause of the fetid waters and disease-inducing conditions, that makes the sea potentially dangerous to traverse. An innoculation station is required to access this area without taking damage.

The Jubbly Jive Barracuda Trial and some barracuda shipwrecks are located here.

Charting activates reward various amounts of Sailing experience, with significant bonus experience for completing every charting task in any given sea or ocean.

• In the March 2025 Sailing Alpha, the portion of this area at the mouth of the River Dougne was named "Dougne Estuary", the coast near Jiggig was named "Jiggig Cove", and the overall area was named "The Feldip Gulf". These labels were removed in the June 2025 Sailing Beta in favour of the current name.
• It is one of the few seas that don't unlock any rapids when fully charted.
