Hallowfell is a two-handed sword that requires level 75 Attack to wield. It is a reward from fighting the Mad Angel, a boss found on Wyrmscraig, and it has a unique effect where it can hit multiple enemies in an area around the player at once.

This item cannot be used in Deaths Coffer.

Passive effect

When you strike a target, Hallowfell cleaves through nearby enemies, damaging up to two additional unique enemies for up to 50% of your maximum hit each.

Affected tiles (6 total):

  1. The three tiles in front of you
  2. The two tiles adjacent to you
  3. Your own tile

This translates to a theoretical +100% DPS increase (100% main target + 50% second target + 50% third target) if always hitting 3 targets.

This works slightly differently from the Scythe of Vitur. It has a wider area of effect, and only unique targets can take these additional hits, meaning it won't trigger multiple hits on larger enemies.

Development history

As with many aspects of Wyrmscraig, Hallowfell was designed by the player ScreteMonge as part of the Player Designed Island Competition, with the name Elessia's Blade. Elessia's Blade would have required 70 Attack to wield and would have had unique attack styles:

  • Cut — Fast attack speed, low accuracy.
  • Half-Sword — Medium attack speed, high accuracy.
  • Murderstroke — Very slow attack speed, increased damage. Additionally, if the player's hit left the target below 10 hitpoints, another 10 damage would be immediately dealt and the player's attack delay for the next attack would be reduced.

These attack styles were removed during development due to it being too difficult to balance,[1] with them being replaced with the multi-target passive effect.

"During development, we explored Gnome's earlier concept for the sword that had multiple different combat modes. While we loved the idea, testing showed that it didn't fit particularly well with our existing equipment design and was difficult to balance in a way that felt consistently fun to use. Rather than shipping something that didn't meet our expectations, we went back to the drawing board and landed on this new design, which we hope you'll love!"
