Emberlight is a demonbane weapon requiring level 77 Attack to wield. It is made by using a tormented synapse on an anvil with an Arclight (must be fully charged, infused, or a combination of the two) and a hammer in the inventory. This requires level 74 Smithing (boostable) and having read Duradel's notes after completion of While Guthix Sleeps.

Arclight infusion and charges can be combined to reach the requirement for upgrading, with each percent of infusion being worth 100 charges (for example: 7,000 charges and 30% infusion).

Emberlight retains the same characteristics as Arclight (70% increased accuracy and damage against demons), but its primary advantages are that it no longer degrades, has higher combat stats, and has a stronger special attack against demons. However, some demons have modified demonbane effectiveness, which can either reduce or increase this bonus. For example, Duke Sucellus has 70% demonbane effectiveness, reducing the bonus to 49% accuracy and damage. Due to how max hits are calculated this would be comparable with having a weapon with a strength bonus 66 without any gear and up to 199 in maxed gear when fighting demons.

A player killer will receive the synapse from their opponent if it is not one of the protected items.

Creation

A tormented synapse can be used on an anvil with a hammer and Arclight (must be fully charged, infused, or a combination of the two) in the inventory to make an Emberlight. This requires level 74 Smithing. The player must also have read Duradel's notes beforehand.

Without an anvil, a message will appear stating "You try to attach the synapse to the sword. The blade sizzles for a moment, but the synapse just slides off it again". Below the required level, a message will appear stating "You attempt to attach the synapse to the sword, but burn yourself in the process. You'll need a Smithing level of 74 to craft Emberlight". This will deal 4 damage to the player, but cannot kill them; attempting to make Emberlight without the Smithing level and having less than 6 hitpoints will prompt the character to state "I'm not sure I want to try that when I'm this injured".

The first Emberlight created on an account grants 730 Smithing experience, whilst subsequent ones grant 73 experience.

Revert & Recreation

The process to create Emberlight can be reversed, returning only the tormented synapse as a result. No infusion or charges are refunded. Recreating Emberlight from scratch would then require 1,000 coins (to reclaim Darklight from Sir Prysin), 30 ancient shards (three for the upgrade from Darklight to an Arclight and 27 for the remaining charges), and a tormented synapse.

Arclight charges and infusion are tracked per sword. A player can posses multiple Arclight via the drop trick method when claiming a Darklight from Sir Prysin. If a player wishes to swap their synapse between weapons or trade it between players often, it is possible to have multiple separate Arclight banked and at maximum charges; though preparing such a situation would normally be a much greater effort than obtaining a spare synapse to keep a completed Emberlight.

Special attack

A player performing Emberlight's special attack, Weaken.

Emberlight's special attack uses a version of Weaken, which consumes 50% of the player's special attack energy and lowers the opponent's Strength, Attack, and Defence levels by 5% (15% for demons) of their base level + 1.[1] This is a +5% improvement to Arclight and Darklight's 10% drain on demons but is otherwise the same.

The accuracy roll for Weaken is made against an opponent's stab defence,[2] and its drain effect only applies to successful hits.

Weaken will stack additively upon successful hits unlike the dragon warhammer, which stacks multiplicatively. Two successful special attacks thus reduce an opponent's Strength, Attack and Defence by 10% + 2, or 30% + 2 against demonic targets.
