Duel of Mokhaiotl is a grandmaster combat achievement which requires defeating the Doom of Mokhaiotl at delve levels 1 through 8, whilst only damaging the boss with one-handed melee attacks.

Damaging the boss with grubs outside of shield phase will fail the achievement, however grubs that hit during shield phase will not. Damage from the Scorching bow or demonbane spells during the shield phase will fail the achievement. Poison and burn damage are both allowed, as well as zombified thralls.

Doom is weakest to crush weapons and demonbane, so it is recommended to use an inquisitor's mace and Inquisitor's armour or Emberlight with oathplate armour. The mace provides best damage outside of the shield and car phases, while the emberlight is best during those phases. The Doom will use a very accurate melee attack if the player is in melee distance, which is halved with Protect from Melee. However, the attack can still hit up to 20 through prayers, so flinching is required to avoid taking too much damage. Doom's attack speed changes based on the delve level, as follows:

Larvae explosions will fail the achievement if they damage the boss outside of the shield phase. Therefore, they must be killed as soon as they appear, lest one gets too close to the boss. If the larvae gets too close to the boss, let them heal it. However, do not let too many of them heal the boss or the damage taken will be unrecoverable. It's recommended to bring an Eye of ayak rather than demonbane spells, as it will still kill magic larvae in one hit but cannot damage Doom during shield phase in case of a misclick.

After delve level 6+, the player will have guaranteed accuracy during the burrow phase. It is highly recommended that Doom only travels one quadrant (the arena can be divided into 3x3) to spend more time attacking the boss rather than running from rocks. During the slam attack, start with a pile closest to Doom and attack with one furthest away so less time is needed to return to the boss.

Zombified thralls can be used for the task, however this is not recommended as their attacks will cause more tiles to be sprayed with acid.

This achievement may be paired with Mine's Better, as players can use a shield with a strength bonus, such as the Toktz-ket-xil or dragonfire shield, to complete both achievements in one run.

Be careful when switching weapons: if you equip only your defender and proceed to punch doom, you will fail the Combat Achievement even though you're doing a "one-handed melee attack".
