The defender can be dismantled any time, returning the defender and the hilt.

If the player dies to a PvP death and the avernic defender is not one of the player's protected items, it will remain in the player's inventory, but will become broken, which means the item is unusable and must be repaired with 600,000 coins by using the item on Perdu.

If you drop down to the elite tier from the master tier, the defender cannot be equipped until either it is dismantled, or the master tier is unlocked again.
