The black defender is a defender made of black metal. It is similar to a dagger, but held in the off-hand in place of a shield. It requires 10 Attack and 10 Defence to wield. The black defender is dropped by Cyclopes on the top floor of the Warriors' Guild, but only once you have obtained a steel defender.

If the player dies to a PvP death and the black defender is not one of the player's protected items, it will remain in the player's inventory, but will become broken, which means the item is unusable and must be repaired with 5,000 coins by using the item on Perdu.

The black defender does not count as an "evil" item in Shadow of the Storm despite its colour.
