The max cape is a cape available to players who have attained level 99 in all 24 skills. It is sold by Mac on his island, west of the Warrior's Guild, for 2,376,000 coins, equivalent to 99,000 for each skill. When purchased, it comes along with a corresponding hood.

The cape's stats are equivalent to a trimmed skillcape, and inherits all skillcape perks from other skillcapes. The cape's emote shows the icons for all 24 skills flying above the character's head, and a bar-graph stylised like the skills interface icon, with the player floating over it.

Bug:

The max cape does not have the teleport to boat feature of the Sailing cape.

To reach Mac, the player needs a pickaxe and an axe, as well as level 99 in Agility, Crafting, Construction, Defence, Mining, and Woodcutting.^[1][2] After purchasing, players can sell excess max capes for 1,900,800 coins. This can only be done if the player has both the hood and cape in their inventory. Other max cape variants can be refunded in the same manner.

This item can be stored in the cape rack of a costume room, as part of the max cape set, along with the hood. Ultimate Ironmen will be unable to retrieve individual pieces until the full set is stored.

The total level a player needs for the max cape is 2,376, the minimum amount of experience required being 312,826,344. As of 1 August 2026, there are 52,396 players that have achieved level 99 in all skills.

On a PvP death, it is always kept in the inventory, even if not protected. If the player is skulled and has the Protect Item prayer active, both the max cape and their most valuable item will be kept. Otherwise, on death from causes outside of the wilderness, if it is not one of your protected items, it goes to your grave.

Players can use the max cape on certain cape items, which will change the stats of the max cape to those of the item it is combined with. This will remove almost all skillcape perks that the max cape provides, effectively being a cosmetic upgrade to the item it is used on; for example, the infernal max cape has identical stats to the infernal cape (with the exception of a lower weight and higher value) without providing any teleports or perks with the following exceptions when worn:

• They act as a Cooking cape to allow access to the Cooks' Guild without a chef's hat, golden chef's hat, Varrock armour 3 or 4
• They act as a Crafting cape to allow access to the Crafting Guild without a brown apron or golden apron
• They act as a Runecraft cape and prevent essence pouches from degrading (but do not allow access to runic altars)
• They act as a Firemaking cape to work as a piece of warm clothing
• They can be used to perform the Skill Cape emote.

Creating a max cape variant requires the max cape, max hood, and the original item in the player's inventory. Any max cape variants can be sold back to Mac for 1,900,800 coins, returning the original item. Players can also disassemble the max cape to its components by using a knife on the cape. Purchasing every variant of the max cape would cost 35,640,000 coins.

All max cape variants and their respective hoods can be stored in the cape rack of a costume room, and are added to the max cape slot. One of each variant can be stored simultaneously, along with the base max cape. For Ultimate Ironmen, at least one max cape hood of any kind is needed in order to remove any of the variants.

Specifically, the items that can be combined with the max cape are items that previously were or currently are best-in-slot upgrades for their respective combat style. These are as follows:

Like the ranging cape, a Vorkath's head can be used on the max cape to increase its ammo-saving effects to match that of the Ava's assembler. If a player has already used a Vorkath's head on a ranging cape prior to obtaining a max cape, they do not need to use another on the max cape. Like Ava's devices, the max cape is affected by metallic interference.

• Players attempting to wear the max cape without having level 99 in all skills will be prevented from doing so, receiving the message "You need to have level 99 in all of the skills to wear this cape.".
• Prior to the Sailing technical pre-release, which added the Sailing icon to the emote, the skillcape emote did not show the Fletching or Thieving icon.
• If a player who hasn't reached level 99 in all skills attempts to purchase a max cape by asking Mac what's in his sack, he will say "None of yer bis'ness."
• Any item used on the max cape that would normally produce the "Nothing interesting happens." message, will say "That doesn't seem to do what you want it to." instead.
• Despite being a members object, the max cape can be used to enter the Crafting Guild on free-to-play worlds in place of a brown or golden apron.
• Despite requiring mastery of every skill in the game, the cape's emote will not complete the elite Falador task of performing a skillcape emote atop the White Knights' Castle.
• When the max cape was released in October of 2015, there were only around 150 players that had achieved 99 in every skill.
• Prior to the release of Sailing there were approximately 72,000 players who had 99 in all skills. The last known exact number was 71,838 as of 31 October 2025.
• Upon purchasing a max cape for the first time, the Wise Old Man, Hans, the Gielinor Guide, and Bob the Cat will congratulate the player via magic.
