Goldsmith gauntlets are one of the three possible glove rewards from Family Crest quest, along with Chaos gauntlets and Cooking gauntlets. They can be obtained by bringing the magical steel gauntlets (along with 25,000 coins) to Avan, who can be found in the Al Kharid mine (no cost if the gauntlets are still steel). The message "Avan takes your gauntlets, takes out a small hammer, and pounds them into a slightly new shape, then hands them to you." appears as this happens. The Goldsmith gauntlets increase the experience gained from smelting gold ore into a gold bar, from 22.5 to 56.2 experience — about 2.5 times as much as without the gauntlets.

Casting the Superheat Item spell on a gold ore while wearing the gauntlets gives 56.2 Smithing experience and 53 Magic experience.

If the gauntlets are lost, they can be re-obtained for no charge from Dimintheis south of eastern Varrock entrance. Goldsmith gauntlets are always lost on death and cannot be stored in death storages.

After the mini quest Family Pest has been completed, the player can claim the goldsmith gauntlets from Avan at any time. They will not be charged 25,000 coins for additional pairs, and may own multiple forms of the Family Crest gauntlets simultaneously. They can also be claimed in free-to-play worlds but cannot be equipped in free-to-play.

• The XP boost very likely has been bugged ever since its inception in Old School RuneScape. This came to light after the release of Sailing when using the Superheat Item spell on gold ore only gave 33.7 Smithing XP, revealing that the gauntlets adds the boosted XP to the original amount instead of replacing it (22.5 + (22.5 * 1.5).^[1]
