Gloves of silence are a pair of thieving gloves requiring 54 Hunter to wear. When worn, the gloves increase your success chance while pickpocketing by 5%, eventually breaking after 62 failed pickpockets.

To make the gloves, players must bring two unnoted Dark kebbit furs from the Piscatoris falconry area (level 57 Hunter) and 600 coins to the Fancy Clothes Store in Varrock, to Pellem in the Hunter Guild, or to Prifddinas' Seamstress. Before they break, the gloves can be repaired by using one dark kebbit fur on them, while having one spool of thread, a knife, and a needle in your inventory; repairing them requires level 64 Crafting but does not grant any experience.

After completing the medium Ardougne diaries, the gloves become ineffective when used in Ardougne and will not degrade, as the 10% increased chance of success the diary provides is higher than that of the gloves and both bonuses do not stack.[1] Upon completion of the hard Ardougne diaries, this extends to the rest of Gielinor and the gloves become completely obsolete. This effect does not require an Ardougne cloak of any tier to be worn.

Players with access to rogue equipment (minimum of 50 Agility and 50 Thieving to obtain) may choose to forgo using the gloves of silence, as wearing the full rogue set guarantees double rewards for pickpocketing. If wearing the gloves instead of the Rogue gloves with the rest of the rogue set, you instead have a 60% chance to double pickpocketing loot (since you lose both the 15% chance from the gloves and the 25% full set bonus), and therefore receive ~20% less loot, while gaining more XP per hour due to less failures. Due to stun timers on failed pickpocketing being longer than the action of pickpocketing itself, the 5% increased success rate results in 7-25% increased XP rates from pickpocketing, depending on base pickpocketing chance.

Degrading

Gloves of silence are damaged when players are caught pickpocketing. A new pair will be destroyed after 62 failures.

The right-click option "Check" gives one of the messages below depending on the gloves' current state of degradation. When the gloves are one failure away from being destroyed, there will be a chatbox warning saying, "Your gloves of silence are going to fall apart!". Gloves of silence can be repaired at any time by using one dark kebbit fur, a needle, a thread, and a knife on the gloves, requiring 64 Crafting. This yields no experience.

The gloves' condition is connected to the player and not the gloves themselves, meaning all gloves will show the same status. Upon falling apart or being repaired, all other pairs will display the new condition, similarly to the function of ring of recoil and ring of forging.

"Check" message Will fall apart in
"Your gloves are new." 62 failures
"Your gloves are in good condition." 61 failures
"Your gloves are starting to look quite shabby." 33 failures
"Your gloves are starting to need repair." 19 failures
"Your gloves are in need of repair!" 9 failures
"Your gloves are about to fall apart!" 1 failure, then destroyed
