Black chinchompas are one-handed multi-target stackable Ranged weapons requiring level 65 Ranged to use. Black chinchompas can be obtained by box trapping black chinchompas in the Wilderness Hunter area. This requires 73 Hunter, and will give the player 315 Hunter experience per catch. To use chinchompas in combat, they must be wielded in the weapon slot. Black chinchompas are thrown like darts or throwing knives; however, they explode on impact.

In PvM, they can hit up to 12 (as opposed to 11 with other chinchompas) targets in a 3x3 area. In PvP, the cap is 10 (as opposed to 9 with other chinchompas). They cannot be picked up again from the ground after being thrown and Ava's attractor does not return them since they are live animals. Black chinchompas have a Ranged Strength bonus of +30, as opposed to +15 from red chinchompas and +0 from grey chinchompas. Using black chinchompas is widely regarded as the fastest way to train Ranged and Hitpoints; however, this method is very costly. Catching black chinchompas is also popular among high-level hunters as it gives fast experience and is profitable.

Fuses are used to describe the attack speed for throwing chinchompas. It is just another name for the conventional styles of ranged training.

  • Short fuse (accurate): 4 ticks
  • Medium fuse (rapid): 3 ticks
  • Long fuse (longrange): 4 ticks

Chinchompa guide

Using black chinchompas is a practical way of training Ranged and Hitpoints since combat experience per hour is determined by how much DPS (damage per second) the player can deal.

It is best used against multiple aggressive targets occupying a 3x3 (or smaller) space and piled together, such as the Skeletons of Ape Atoll or the Maniacal monkeys in Kruk's Dungeon, as these monsters are highly aggressive and easily stack on top of each other.

Chinchompas treat accuracy differently to other AoE damage sources: if the primary target is hit, all secondary targets are hit automatically; if the primary target is missed, all secondary targets are missed automatically.

This mechanic can be used when there are two monsters in close proximity with different defence levels, most notably Kree'arra in the God Wars Dungeon. The melee minion Flight Kilisa's Defence (both in levels and ranged defence) are much lower than Kree'arra's, meaning that players will hit more often and deal more damage than directly attacking the boss using even the most powerful single target weapons. Lure Kree'arra into melee distance and then attack Kilisa with the chinchompas.

Chinchompas' accuracy is based off of the distance from the closest tile of the target.[1][2] Furthermore, the accuracy roll made on the initial target uses the 'heavy' ranged defence for determining the opponent's defence roll.[3]

  • If a Chinchompa begins to enter a Box trap on the final tick, it will delay the boxes collapse until the trap either succeeds, or fails.
