The magic comp bow requires level 50 Ranged to wield, and can fire arrows up to amethyst. It is slightly quicker and more accurate than a magic longbow, and features the same special attack. Magic comp bows can be obtained as a reward for completing a hard Treasure Trail. This item can be stored in the treasure chest of a costume room, provided that the interface of the corresponding clue tier is opened before attempting to store the item. Alternatively, the item can be used on the opened treasure chest to insert it without viewing the interface.

Composite bows can be fired from 10 squares away at both rapid and long range styles; this combination of speed and distance is matched only by the crystal bow, scorching bow, and bow of Faerdhinen. Where long attack distance is ideal, a magic comp bow could suffice as a non-degradable alternative to the crystal bow.

Special attack

The magic comp bow's special attack, Powershot, is guaranteed to hit the target. This consumes 35% of the player's special attack energy. This special attack is also shared with the magic longbow, to the extent of copying the magic longbow's attack speed for this hit - this functionally makes the special attack 1 tick slower than the comp bow's regular attack.

Powershot uses a custom form of damage calculation that does not take into account offensive Prayers (such as Eagle Eye) when determining a player's maximum Ranged hit.[1]

The following formula can be used to calculate the max hit of Powershot:

  1. ^ Only the player's visible ranged level matters. Boosts given through prayers and Void Knight armour are ignored.
  2. ^ A stance bonus of 10 is used regardless of attack style used.
  3. ^ The ranged strength bonus of the player's armour and gear is ignored. Only the ranged strength bonus of the player's ammo is used.
  4. ^ The bonus damage usually provided by wearing a Slayer helmet (i), Salve amulet (i) or Salve amulet (ei) is ignored.

  • One of the fastest crossbows, together with the hunters' crossbow.
  • Can only fire bolt racks, which cannot be retrieved by an Ava's device.
  • If worn with the rest of Karil the Tainted's equipment, it offers a set effect which lowers the target's Agility level (only works on players).
  • Wearing an amulet of the damned together with the whole equipment set grants a 25% chance for an attack to hit twice, in which case the second hit will inflict half the damage of the first.
  • Like all Barrows equipment, it degrades and will fully degrade after 15 hours of combat. It is repairable.
Hunters' sunlight crossbow Ranged 66

  • Significantly cheaper than other options while still being quite strong, especially against lower-defence targets.
  • Unlike most crossbows, it has an attack speed of 3 on rapid, making it comparable to a Magic shortbow (i) but with a slightly higher range (8 tiles) and accuracy, along with being one-handed.
  • It is also easier to obtain for Ironmen, requiring Fletching 74 Fletching to make. However, Ironmen can only obtain the ammunition via Hunter.
  • Uses Sunlight antler bolts or Moonlight antler bolts as ammunition, giving +55 and +60 ranged strength which are equivalent to Amethyst arrows and Dragon arrows, respectively.

  • Can be imbued with a magic shortbow scroll, increasing its ranged attack bonus to +75 and lowering the special attack cost to 50%.
