Steel cannonballs are ammunition used for a dwarf multicannon, as well as for a boat cannon during boat combat. They can be fired from steel cannons or stronger.

Four can be made from a single steel bar with level 35 Smithing, granting 25.6 experience per bar. Smithing cannonballs require the use of an ammo mould, which requires partial completion of Dwarf Cannon to obtain. Alternatively, a double ammo mould (requiring Foundry Reputation to purchase via the Giants' Foundry minigame) allows players to process two bars into eight cannonballs at the same speed as a regular ammo mould processes one bar into four.

Players with level 87 Sailing can further speed up smithing cannonballs by using the ancient furnace in the Grimstone Dungeon, which halves the time it takes to create cannonballs from 8 ticks to 4 ticks. Combining this with a double ammo mould, players can smith cannonballs at four times the normal speed.

Lastly, players with level 50 Smithing can use granite dust on steel cannonballs to create granite cannonballs, which gives superior stats on boat cannons, and increases the max hit of dwarf multicannons by 5. This yields no experience.

The following stats apply only to ship combat.

Making steel cannonballs is a popular method for players to train Smithing and profit without requiring much input or attention. A full inventory takes 160 seconds to process using Make-X. Optimal speeds yield nearly 14,000 Smithing experience per hour from converting a total of 540 steel bars into 2,160 cannonballs when using the Prifddinas furnace. Using a furnace closer to a bank will increase efficiency.

Players can also smelt one iron ore and two coal to make the steel bars and then use them to make cannonballs without returning to a bank, but it is very slow. Unless using the Blast Furnace with a coal bag, the profit gained from creating your own steel bars is far less than using premade steel bars.

The double ammo mould from Giants' Foundry almost doubles production and experience rates.
