Rubium splinters are resources that are mined from rubium rocks at level 48 Mining, found in the Charred Dungeon on Charred Island. Each rock will provide a guaranteed two splinters, and may deplete randomly on each subsequent splinter mined.

About and uses

At level 68, rubium deposits can also be mined for rubium geodes which can be broken down with a hammer and chisel into splinters. The amount of splinters obtained from a geode scales with Mining level.[1]

10 splinters and 2 of any smithable cannonball can be used at an anvil to smith 2 incendiary cannonballs every 3 ticks in batches of 56 (up to 28 actions per batch). This is done by left-clicking "Smith" on the anvil; using either the splinters or the cannonball on the anvil will not work.

When fired from a ship's cannon, the incendiaries have a chance to burn their targets.

Trivia

  • Rubium ore also exists in RuneScape 3 with key differences:
    • Instead of veins found deep in the Witchaven Dungeon, rubium splinters are found via rubium rocks in the Charred Dungeon.
    • The completion of the quest Kennith's Concerns in RuneScape 3 is required to mine Rubium, while the rocks containing Rubium splinters in Old School RuneScape only require 60 Sailing to dock at its respective island.
    • Unlike rubium in RuneScape 3, the splinters are stackable and are not destroyed when dropped.
  • Using Rubium Splinters on an anvil will incorrectly yield the message "You need to purify the ore first, by smelting it in a furnace" even though they cannot be smelted.
