The Dorgeshuun crossbow is a crossbow requiring level 28 Ranged to equip. It is often used to train Ranged at low to medium levels, due to it having several advantages over similar crossbows with the same level requirements. It has the same attack bonus as an iron crossbow. It has an attack speed that is one tick faster than most other crossbows, and it is able to fire bone bolts, which are significantly cheaper than most other ammunition of similar strength. The fact it is a crossbow also gives it an advantage over shortbows, allowing the use of the shield slot for defensive or offensive purposes. Despite the bone bolts being roughly equivalent to iron bolts in ranged strength, the Dorgeshuun crossbow's faster attack speed means that its damage-per-second output when firing bone bolts is comparable to that of a regular crossbow firing steel or even mithril bolts (depending on the player's exact Ranged level).

It can be bought from Nardok in the Dorgeshuun Mines after the completion of The Lost Tribe quest. Completion of this quest is not required to equip it, however, meaning it can be purchased from other players and used without completing this quest. It can fire metal bolts up to iron, except silver bolts, and is the only crossbow that can use bone bolts. Note, however, that bolts containing unique tips and their (e) variants are not able to be fired from it.

This crossbow is the only crossbow with an attack speed of 5. This makes it 1 tick faster than most crossbows - it is only slower than the Karil's crossbow, the hunters' crossbow, and its upgraded variant, the hunter's sunlight crossbow, which all have an attack speed of 4. It should be noted that the Karil's crossbow is two-handed.

Weighing only 2.267kg, it is also the lightest crossbow in the game, making it ideal to use along with the mithril grapple when conservation of run energy is necessary, such as in the Hallowed Sepulchre.

Special attack

A player performs the Dorgeshuun crossbow's special attack, Snipe.

The Dorgeshuun crossbow has a special attack, Snipe (75%), which will never miss as long as the target has not been damaged previously or you weren't the last one to damage the target.[1] It lowers the target's Defence by the amount of damage dealt, similar to the Bandos godsword's and bone dagger's special attacks. The defence lowering is only applied when the target doesn't currently have their defence levels lowered.[2]

The special attack requires completion of the quest Death to the Dorgeshuun.

  • Wearing an amulet of the damned together with the whole equipment set grants a 25% chance for an attack to hit twice, in which case the second hit will inflict half the damage of the first.
  • Like all Barrows equipment, it degrades and will fully degrade after 15 hours of combat. It is repairable.

Trivia

  • A code comment attached to the implementation of the Dorgeshuun crossbow's special attack mentions "double damage" being involved in some form or other; no such mechanic is known to exist in practice.[3]
