The carnivorous chinchompa is a chinchompa that players can capture with the Hunter skill at level 63 or above after completion of Eagles' Peak, granting 265 Hunter experience each.

Carnivorous chinchompas may be assigned as a hunters' rumour task by any tier of Guild Hunter.

When caught, red chinchompas can be used as multi-target stackable Ranged weapons requiring level 55 Ranged to wield, which can hit up to 11 targets in a 3x3 area.

Hunting technique

The hunting technique is the same as for other chinchompas. Players must bring a box trap for each trap they plan to set up. Players can use the same box trap over and over to catch multiple creatures.

Carnivorous chinchompas can be attacked, but they will explode upon being killed, harming the player if they are standing right next to it for 2 damage. Accidental misclicks may be avoided by wielding a bow with no arrows or adjusting NPC attack options to right-click attack only.

Alternatively, players can kill one to see where it respawns so that traps can be set accordingly to surround the spot. Kill any chinchompa that wanders off and quickly reset the traps if necessary. This method is more efficient at the cost of being more click-intensive.

Hunting chance

The chance of successful catch is approximately 115/255 beginning at level 63, and 228/255 at level 99.^[1] Carnivorous and Black Chinchompas have the same catch rate. The approximate formula for the chance of a successful catch (P) given hunter level (L) is:

Trivia

Chinchompas were most likely inspired by the chinchilla.
Red chinchompas used to inhabit the small lake area in the middle of the Wilderness when it was rejuvenated. With the feedback update, they evolved into black chinchompas.
