A sapphire glacialis is a members-only item that is made by catching a sapphire glacialis butterfly with a butterfly jar in the inventory. This requires level 25 Hunter with a (magic) butterfly net or level 35 Hunter without, and gives 34 experience points. These butterflies can be found in the Rellekka Hunter area, outside the Farming Guild, and on Mons Gratia.

Once caught, players can right-click "Release" the filled butterfly jar to boost their Defence by 4 + 15% of their Defence level (rounded down). In a multi-combat zone, the item may be used on another player to share the effect with them and up to three players within a 5x5 area of the target. Players must have Accept Aid toggled on to receive the boost. The empty butterfly jar will remain in the inventory after use.

With a pestle and mortar, players can combine the jarred butterfly with raw hunter meat to create sapphire glacialis mix (2).
