Mine's Better is a master combat achievement which requires defeating the Doom of Mokhaiotl at delve levels 1 through 8 with a shield always equipped.
Strategy
Players have the option of using melee or ranged for this achievement. Defenders, God Books and the antler guard are not considered shields and will not count towards the task.
Because players will not be able to use most bows, and melee is already a poor method for the boss (unless additionally attempting the Duel of Mokhaiotl achievement), players are recommended to use ranged with a crossbow instead. With full best-in-slot ranged gear, dragon knives have the highest DPS but will likely prove difficult to use due to their fast attack speed and short attack range.
Diamond bolts are helpful against the Doom's higher ranged defence despite its lower Defence level, while ruby bolts can deal a lot of damage in earlier parts of the fight.
During shield phases, make sure to bring both Darklight and a staff that can autocast demonbane spells, such as a slayer's staff. For melee punishes, bring a one-handed weapon with high strength bonus. Melee punish damage is equal to the player's strength bonus divided by 5. Osmumten's fang and the zombie axe are good candidates, with a +103/107 strength bonus respectively, meaning a minimum of 20/21 damage per melee punish. A dragon warhammer is also worth considering despite its lesser strength bonus of +85, as the special attack can be used on melee punishes for extra damage and guaranteed defence reduction.
