A player using the Eye of Ayak's built in spell.

The eye of Ayak is a one-handed powered staff that requires level 83 Magic to wield. It is a drop from the Doom of Mokhaiotl upon completion of delve level 3 and higher. Like most powered staves, it is only tradeable when it is fully uncharged.

It is the second strongest powered staff, placing it between the Sanguinesti staff and Tumeken's shadow in power. The maximum damage per hit is comparatively low, but it has the fastest attack speed of all powered staves, firing at a rate of 3 ticks (1.8 seconds) compared to the other staves' 4 or 5-tick speed.

The eye of Ayak can be dismantled for 10,000 Demon tears, resulting in a loss of −39,981,642 coins.

The eye of Ayak cannot be used in Castle Wars, Clan Wars, TzHaar Fight Pit, and Soul Wars, despite all other powered staves being usable against players in those areas.

The eye of Ayak does not lose charges on death in the Wilderness if the item is protected, even if the death occurs past level 20 Wilderness.

Special attack

A player using the eye of Ayak's special attack, Soul Rend.

The eye of Ayak has a special attack, Soul Rend, which consumes 50% of the player's special attack energy. The special attack is fired slower than a standard attack, with it being a 5-tick attack rather than 3. As compensation, the player's accuracy is doubled and max hit is increased by 30%.

When it successfully damages a target, the target will lose Magic Defence equal to the amount dealt. This is different compared to Magic levels that the accursed sceptre normally fulfills. As Magic Defence is not a stat, NPCs are unable to restore it and the drain from the Eye of Ayak will remain until the target is killed or despawns.

Magic Defence cannot be drained below 0, but it will carry over if any stat changes are detected. For example, a player hits 50 with the special on Yama while he is in his melee stance (-30 Magic Defence). If Yama changes to his magic stance (+60 Magic Defence in phase 1/2, or +81 in phase 3), Yama's actual Magic Defence will become +10/31 respectively. The same applies to Zulrah, whose tanzanite form has Magic Defence, but not its serpentine or magma forms.

Charging

To use the staff's magic spell, it must be charged with death and chaos runes or demon tears, holding up to 50,000 charges when fully charged, which will last 25 hours of continuous combat. Each cast requires 2 death runes and 1 chaos rune, or 1 demon tear, costing 476 coins or 302 coins respectively per cast. Any remaining charges within the Eye can be removed at any time using the 'Uncharge' option, which will recover all runes/tears used to charge it.

The Eye cannot be charged with both runes and demon tears at the same time. If the Eye is empty or currently charged with demon tears, it will passively gain 10-20 charges upon defeating the Doom of Mokhaiotl. No game message is displayed when this occurs. If the player has multiple eyes of Ayak in their inventory upon defeating the Doom of Mokhaiotl, only one of them will be charged.

Resource Cost per charge
2 x Death rune 370
1 x Chaos rune 106
Total cost per charge 476

The total cost to fully charge the staff with 100,000 death and 50,000 chaos runes is 23,800,000 coins. Assuming non-stop use, with one cast every 1.8 seconds equalling 2,000 casts per hour, the Eye costs 952,000 coins per hour to use with runes.

Resource Cost per charge
1 x Demon tear 302
Total cost per charge 302

The total cost to fully charge the staff with 50,000 demon tears is 15,100,000 coins. Assuming non-stop use, with one cast every 1.8 seconds equaling 2,000 casts per hour, the Eye costs 604,000 coins per hour to use with tears.
