Upon completion of an elite or master clue scroll, the casket received has a chance of turning out to be a mimic chest. Mimic caskets can only be obtained from an elite or master reward casket after asking the strange casket to enable the chance to obtain a mimic casket (which is disabled by default). If players have not talked to the strange casket when they receive their first elite or master reward casket, they may choose whenever both casket types can roll for a mimic or not.
Attacks
The Mimic uses several attacks throughout the duration of the fight.
- Melee attack: The Mimic can hit you with a normal melee attack if you are standing beside it.
- Candy attack: The Mimic throws six candies at you. If you fail to step out of the way, you will receive about 10 damage. Three candies are purple, and there is one red, one blue and one green candy. The red, blue and green candies spawn the Third Age Warrior, Third Age Mage, and Third Age Ranger respectively. There is no benefit to killing them as they drop nothing and, when killed, they instantly respawn when another candy attack occurs.
- Stomp Attack: Sometimes, The Mimic will step one tile forward onto you. Alternatively, this attack is activated when you walk under The Mimic. For every tick (0.6 seconds) that you stand under The Mimic, you will receive damage. The damage scales as follows: 1-1-1-2-2-2-3-... and so on, capping out at 6 damage. Simply step away from The Mimic to stop and reset the damage counter.
Suggested skills
Equipment
Using magic alongside the dragon claws will allow the player to kill the Mimic relatively quickly. High-levelled players should have little difficulty defeating the mimic with high-end gear.
The player should always use Protect from Melee and move around the room when the Mimic throws sweets, and the player should ignore the spawned Third Age minions. Protect from Melee should be activated before the player enters the instance. The player should use stat-boosting potions and the invigorate option of the imbued/saturated heart before entering the instance. The player should enter the fight in full melee gear and use both the dragon claws special attacks (can be substituted with burning claws or a dragon dagger if the player does not have dragon claws).
For lower-levelled players, it is helpful to freeze the Mimic in place with Entangle or ice spells, which renders the Mimic unable to use melee attacks or the stomp attack as long as you are standing away from it.
Inventory
As the fight is relatively short, a full inventory of food and potions is not necessary. For lower-levelled players, increase the number of prayer-restoring potions and food, and consider bringing freeze spells.
- Special attack weapon (optional)
- Melee switch (optional)
- Runes for Entangle or ice spells (optional)
- 1 divine super combat potion (if bringing a melee switch)
- 1 super restore or prayer potion
- 4–6 anglerfish
- Emergency teleport
- Saturated heart or Imbued heart or magic potion

If you are an ironman or do not meet the minimum requirement for using Magic (Trident of the seas or better powered staff), the fight is much easier using the Protect from Magic prayer against the Third Age Mage, utilizing melee gear to tank the Mimic, Third Age Warrior, and Third Age Ranger. Using Super strength and Super attack potions with Piety will typically do similar or more DPS than an average mage set using the Warped sceptre. This makes the fight much easier as you have more damage resistance and allows players to take more food for their first few kills, or until better magic switches or a more powerful powered staff is obtained.
The player should start with Protect from Melee until the Mimic throws a set of sweets which spawn the Third Age Mage, swapping then to Protect from Magic. Like the other strategies, ignore the Third Age minions. The player should enter the fight fully potted up and ready to use their best special attack weapon. Ensure Piety or your best melee boosting prayer is active for the duration of the fight.
Despite the Mimic's slight weakness to crush, a slash weapon will still typically outperform them.

Two prayer potions should be enough for the entire kill duration, keeping Piety and Protect from Magic up the entire time. Fill your inventory with the best food you have access too, along with some Cooked karambwan so you can combo eat to maximize your healing while minimizing downtime. Keep auto retaliate off to avoid running to the spawned minions, and move around the room to keep from getting backed into a corner when the Mimic steps onto you, preventing unnecessary damage. You may wish to use the nearby Hosidius Kitchen to bank and pre-pot a Super defence.
- Special attack weapon
- 1 Super combat potion or 1 of each Super attack potion, Super strength potion
- 2 super restore, prayer potion, or Moonlight moth mix
- Best food available
- Cooked karambwan for combo eating
