The steel ring is an item dropped by the deranged archaeologist. It has no requirements to equip and is the best-in-slot melee defensive ring, surpassing the ring of suffering (i). However, it has no Magic defence, Ranged defence, or Prayer bonuses.
It may be a more useful option for players who cannot afford a ring of suffering, or require better melee tanking equipment for encounters where they won't be attacked with other styles like the Moons of Peril. Other rings that provide offensive bonuses will usually perform better, but the steel ring can be useful for earlier in account progression, as the deranged archaeologist has very low requirements to defeat.
Unlike gold rings, it cannot be made with the Crafting skill using a ring mould at a furnace.
