Maz is a squirrel found roaming around Fossil Island. If players use an acorn on her, she will follow them until they log out or leave the island. Using a dark acorn or calcified acorn on her will result in her saying *chitter*, but won't follow the player. She will take regular acorns from the player's inventory when used on her, but not the dark and calcified variants.

Initially spawning just outside the Mushroom Forest after a system update, she is able to go anywhere around Fossil Island that is not restricted by physical boundaries.

She will often get stuck when following a running player since she only moves one tile per tick. She is difficult to accompany through Mushroom Forest for this reason; players will need to walk/wait for her to catch up while tanking aggressive tar monsters. She also cannot move through other NPCs such as hoop snakes, making her navigation through the forest even more cumbersome.

• Maz was added in game by Mod Ash in honour of Mod Maz, the Jagex Moderator who designed Fossil Island.
• Maz had a festive override wearing a santa hat during the 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 Christmas events. The chathead only had an override in 2019.
