Sulliusceps are a type of mushroom found in the Tar Swamp on Fossil Island. Chopping sulliusceps requires level 65 in Woodcutting and grants the player 127 experience per yield.

Players can receive mushrooms and mort myre fungus from chopping sulliusceps, and can also receive a sulliuscep cap at a rate of 1/100, which is used in creating mushroom pies. In addition, they also yield numulite and unidentified fossils fairly commonly, making chopping sulliusceps one of the fastest ways to obtain fossils for Kudos.

Sulliusceps have a 1/16 chance per successful chop to deplete.

Players can occasionally obtain bird nests and clue nests from chopping sulliusceps.

Main drops

If no item on the fossil pre-roll table is hit, the main mushroom table is rolled.^[1] Accordingly, asking Peter to disable the drop of regular and/or rare fossils on the island will increase the odds of rolling the main mushroom table slightly.^[2]

Locations

The strategy method for cutting sulliusceps.

There are six sulliusceps found throughout the Tar Swamp, indicated by the icon, but only one is large enough to be chopped down at any given time, while all other locations will have sulliuscep sprouts in their location. Players must traverse the Tar Swamp to find the choppable sulliuscep, the location of which is unique to each player, so world switching will not change its location. Once chopped, the next sulliuscep will spawn, the location of which cycles through the same sequence over and over and is shown in the image.

To get to the first one, player can use either Magic Mushtree or rubber cap mushroom. The rubber cap mushroom is not recommended unless the mud pit has been filled with 9 bittercap mushrooms at the landing site. If players take the rubber cap without a mushy bed to land on, they may sustain up to 50 damage upon landing.

XP Rates

Cutting sulliuscep mushroom trees on Fossil Island offers the fastest woodcutting experience when not using any sort of tick manipulation. Players must have completed Bone Voyage for this method. Additionally, a high Hitpoints level is recommended to ensure a full run as tar monsters can hit fairly frequently with a max hit of 9 along with spine mushrooms that hit 10 and inflict poison. Due to the damage taken with this method of training, an absolute minimum of 11 Hitpoints (one above the maximum hit of spine mushrooms) is strongly recommended. While occasional damage from the spine mushrooms can't be avoided, it is possible to completely avoid damage from the Tar Monsters by stunning them with hoop snakes. Experience rates scale depending on the Woodcutting level. At level 65, players can gain up to around 80,000 experience per hour, increasing to around 97,000 experience per hour at level 90 and 100,000–110,000 experience per hour at level 99. To achieve level 99 woodcutting from 65, you will have to cut 97,778 sulliusceps assuming you wear the lumberjack outfit or have it stored in the Forestry kit. The Felling axe effect does apply, provided you have the appropriate amount of Forester's rations to activate it. The effect to cut the mushroom without collecting any supplies will destroy fossils.

Assuming players keep the sulliuscep caps, the numulite and unidentified fossils, on average they will receive 978 sulliuscep caps, around 264,000 numulite, 1394 unidentified small fossils, 698 unidentified medium fossils, 559 unidentified large fossils and 140 unidentified rare fossils. Assuming the sulliuscep caps and the numulite are sold on the grand exchange, this is worth 19,168,476 coins. Furthermore, the fossils can be used to build fossil exhibits at the Varrock Museum, which reward special XP lamps and Kudos for each set of five fossils of a given type (except rare fossils); 120,000 total experience can be obtained in this way, which leaves you with 1,324 small, 638 medium, 509 large and 140 rare fossils. These can be used at the mycelium pool to calcify them using pyrophosphite and calcite. The recalcified bones can then be used on the easternmost strange machine in the House on the Hill for a total of 2,031,750 Prayer experience.

Injecting

Injecting a sulliuscep mushroom with fungicide spray using a proboscis causes the current sulliuscep to die off and the next one to grow.

Injecting one is a task listed on the Fossil island notice board. Completing all 7 tasks for this region gives 5 Unidentified medium fossils.

Trivia

Prior to an update that made the tar swamp less hostile, injecting was a useful mechanic to avoid spots where it was possible to be attacked. After the update, it lost its usefulness as every location is safe from the range of a tar monster or spine mushroom.
The name may have been inspired by a combination of real life suillus and cep mushrooms.
