Crystal tree

A Crystal tree can be grown with the Farming skill. Players with at least level 74 Farming may plant a crystal sapling in the Prifddinas crystal tree patch. The crystal tree cannot become diseased.

Crystal trees are grown by first planting a crystal acorn in a filled plant pot, which will turn into a crystal tree sapling after being watered and allowed to grow. The crystal tree sapling is then planted in the crystal tree patch using a spade. Only one crystal tree patch exists and is located in the north-east section of Prifddinas.

An amulet of nature can be bound to the patch to provide players with information about its growing progress. It takes approximately 8 hours for the tree to grow.

Once fully grown, the tree can be harvested with an axe. Unlike other harvested trees, crystal trees are harvested and removed at the same time; no stump remains to be cleared and the patch is immediately empty once the tree is harvested. Harvesting crystal trees grants 28–32 crystal shards with ultracompost, with fewer shards yielded from lesser composts (down to 16-20 with no compost). Magic secateurs and the farming cape have no effect.^[1][2] Players can also receive bird nests after chopping the tree down.

Crystal shards are untradeable, but can be used to make Divine potions, which are tradeable. The shards can also be used for charging crystal equipment. As the tree yields shards upon harvest and crystal acorns may be obtained by exchanging tradeable crystal seeds, harvesting the crystal tree may be used as a passive method of obtaining crystal shards, depending on GE prices. If the tree is grown by converting a purchased crystal weapon seed into a crystal acorn and ultracompost is used, and the shards are used to make divine super combat potions, the net gold for growing the tree comes out to 205,028.00. If making divine bastion potions, the net gold is 124,778.00. The expected average cost of obtaining shards by growing a tree compared to exchanging an enhanced crystal teleport seed is 373,754.00 per 30 shards. The average price per shard is 10,063.23.
