Bloodwood trees are a special type of tree native to Vampyrium. Chopping them requires completion of The Blood Moon Rises, 77 Woodcutting and an empty bucket, yielding bloodwood sap which can be used to upgrade arrows into seeking arrows. An aranei bucket dealer standing near the two bloodwood tree locations will supply buckets free of charge via their "Take" or "Take-many" options.

Unlike traditional woodcutting, chopping bloodwood trees is far more click-intensive; efficiently chopping bloodwood trees involves clicking multiple times a tick to wound a tree, and managing the bleeding of multiple trees at once. When cut efficiently using a 2-tick cycle, approximately 90-100 buckets of bloodwood sap can be obtained per hour.

Alternatively, the engorged bloodwood tree can also be chopped as a lower-intensity alternative more similar to traditional woodcutting, although at considerably reduced rates of sap, offering only ~20 buckets per hour.

When using the bloodwood sap to make sap-treated redwood logs, an hour's worth of bloodwood sap can make up to 10,500 seeking arrow shafts. These can then be fletched into powerful seeking arrows for combat or profit. Using this method, an hour's worth of chopping can yield enough sap to profit 5,238,000 for seeking amethyst arrows and 7,296,000 for seeking dragon arrows[a]. However, keep in mind that processing the sap-treated logs and fletching the seeking arrows takes time, which reduces hourly profit rates.

  1. ^ These numbers are not currently accurate, since the seeking arrows are a new addition to the game, and GE prices haven't yet settled

Mechanics

Wounding a tree

Efficiently cutting a bloodwood tree

Bloodwood trees are chopped individually between players, meaning that a group of players can chop the same tree without interfering with each other. This however doesn't improve the woodcutting rate as it usually does with other trees.

To start, players must click on the tree with an empty bucket in the inventory. This places the bucket on the tree, which cannot be retrieved until it is filled with bloodwood sap. Players then need to click on their character to pull back their axe.

Every chop requires the player to pull the axe back twice, however both clicks can be performed on the same tick. Once the axe is fully pulled back, click the tree to chop it. Efficiently cutting a bloodwood tree is a two tick cycle: Clicking the tree, clicking the player character twice, then repeating.

An efficient chopping cycle will result in a smooth animation of the player character swinging their axe as if they were cutting a regular tree. The amount of chops required is dependent on the player's Woodcutting level and the axe used.

Bloodwood trees do not drop any nests nor leaves, and do not trigger any Forestry events. Additionally, the lumberjack outfit and its variants do not increase experience gained. Forester's rations are consumed with a felling axe at the engorged tree to reduce chopping time by roughly 10 seconds, but have no effect and are not consumed at the active bloodwood trees. However, visible Woodcutting boosts do improve the chopping rates.

(The following table is built over level 85 rates but is not accurate due to the chopping rate being also dependent on the Woodcutting level as well the differences between axes.)

Draining wounded trees

A wounded bloodwood tree filling a bucket with sap.

Once a bloodwood tree has been fully wounded, sap will start draining into the bucket; while this occurs, the tree's health bar will steadily deplete, allowing players to work on wounding another tree if they so desire.

To maximize chopping rates when chopping all three trees, tap the two bleeding trees only when both have fully depleted their health bars. This will allow players to always have a new tree to chop once the current tree has finished being wounded. A bleeding tree's health bar will drain in roughly half the time it takes to wound a tree, making the half-way point of the current tree a good indicator for when to tap the other trees.

Every time players tap a tree, they will gain some Woodcutting experience, for a total of 1,364 per tree. Once the bucket is full, click on the tree to pick it up, then replace it with another bucket. Swapping buckets occurs automatically if players were already focused on that tree from a previous tap.

Players may scale their experience rates by chopping one, two, or all three trees at the same time. Chopping all 3 trees at the same time can net upwards of 220k Woodcutting experience per hour. If chopping all 3 trees at the same time, the location south of the Ruined Village is slightly better, since all 3 trees there are exactly 4 tiles away from each other.

Changes

Date Changes
22 July 2026
(Update)

The dragon axe (or) is now correctly recognised as a dragon axe by bloodwood trees.

15 July 2026
(Update)
  • Added the engorged bloodwood tree, a lower-intensity alternative to bloodwood trees in exchange for reduced Woodcutting XP and bloodwood sap.
  • Reduced crystal shard consumption when using the crystal axe at bloodwood trees to 10%.
  • Fixed an issue where claiming a full bucket of bloodwood sap with a full inventory could cause the bucket and its contents to be lost.
  • Buckets placed by bloodwood trees now remain between logins.
