The Maggot King is a boss in Vampyrium that requires completion of The Blood Moon Rises to kill. The entrance to its lair can be found in the forest east of Sangvesti, near the Ruined Village.

Players may only fight the boss by themselves, and the fight takes place inside an instance. Additionally, a mix of melee and either magic or ranged is required to fight the Maggot King, as it cannot be attacked with melee until it falls below ~980 hitpoints (65%).

The Maggot King is the most mature and strongest form of the ur-maggot,[1] a parasitic entity that kills its host and later possesses its body.[2] This ur-maggot seems to have killed and then taken over the body of a powerful venator.

A scoreboard can be found outside of the entrance leading into the boss area, recording the player's and global records against the boss.

Use Drakan's medallion to get to Castle Drakan, enter Vampyrium, and then run east. Before fighting the boss, players should unlock a quick-travel method by rescuing an aranei scout south-east of Sangvesti.

This scout will initially be attacked by sanguidae; kill all three of them, then talk to the scout again, who will then be found south of the bank chest by the map icon and will take players just east of Sangvesti. Two agility shortcuts can be used to traverse the woods more quickly, both requiring level 64 Agility.

Lastly, to use the bank chest, it must first be built with level 70 Construction (boosts can be used) using a hammer and saw, 1 magic stone, 2 cupronickel bars, 2 adamantite bars, and 4 ironwood planks.

    • Loot mechanics

    When the Maggot King dies, players can retrieve loot from its corpse via one of two options:

    • "Open-stomach" grants a roll on the normal drop table.
    • "Take-eggs" sacrifices normal drops for an increased chance to receive the pet.

    The boss will respawn shortly after interacting with the corpse.

    There are three possible outcomes when taking eggs:

    Each type of maggot egg can be popped for a different chance to receive the maggot marquess pet, such that the total chance to receive the pet following any given egg-take is 1/1,502.4.

    • A bug, in which the boss' venator screech attack visuals may disappear if it took damage whilst performing the attack, has been fixed.

    (Update)
    • Reduced Maggot King death fees for any deaths that occur before your next five Maggot King kills are completed. This applies to all players, regardless of current kill count.
    • Inventory overflow drops at the Maggot King will now remain on the ground for 3 hours before despawning, instead of using the normal despawn timer.
    • Fixed an issue where Maggot King loot could occasionally appear far above its intended location when your inventory was full.
    • Fixed an issue where brimstone keys looted from the Maggot King could drop in inaccessible areas of the boss's lair. They now drop within the player arena, where they can be picked up normally.
    • Fixed an issue where ur-maggot larvae could occasionally survive venator bow bounce attacks.

    (Update)
    • Ammunition fired at the Maggot King will now always drop in the player arena.
    • The Maggot King's projectile attacks and floor hazards are now more visually distinctive.
    • Elite clue scrolls have been added to the Maggot King's drop table.
    • The quantities of several drops have increased, and leechfin have been replaced by adamantite ore.
    • The Maggot King now places harvested loot directly into your inventory instead of dropping it on the ground.
    • The Aranei scout outside Castle Drakan can now use coins from Death's Coffer or the bank when retrieving gravestones.
    • When doing "Take-eggs", the message A pile of half digested food spills out as you try to take the eggs. is no longer displayed.

    		 Hotfix

    Fixed a bug where certain ur-maggot larvae spawns during the Maggot King boss encounter could spawn incorrectly within the boss's arena.
