Leechfin live in the rivers of Vampyrium. Upon completion of The Blood Moon Rises, they can be fished from leechfin fishing spots south of the Ruined Village with a big fishing net and level 78 Fishing, granting 33.2 experience per fish. A fish barrel cannot be used to store leechfin, and Fishing enhancers will not work for fishing leechfin; however, the angler's outfit will provide bonus experience.
Leechfin can be cut with a knife or fletching knife for a 1/3 chance to receive a blood sac, of which 50 can be squeezed to create one vial of blood, in the range of 6–18 vials per hour, depending on the method used and concentration. Cutting the fish interrupts the fishing and reduces experience rates by about 40% when fishing and cutting a full inventory. After initiating the cutting, subsequent leechfins will be automatically cut once per tick (which cannot be sped up), providing 20 Cooking experience each.
Leechfin fishing is a high-intensity method of training Fishing, with rates maxing out at about 131,000 experience per hour. Mechanically, catching leechfin is similar to raw bream fishing in Neypotzli, but provides considerably better experience.

After first casting the net on the fishing spot, leechfin will start to flow towards the player. In order to catch them, the net needs to be aligned depending on where they are coming from; each fish swims either on the left, centre or right part of the stream. There is a small chance that a fish gets away even with a correctly aligned net, in which case a slight amount of experience is still given. Leechfin come in cycles; after 22 of them come through one after another, there is a short lull before more come, providing extra time to drop or cut some of them. Additionally, Leechfin always follow a semi-randomized pattern. The first 7 fish will be in different “columns,” the next 2 in the same, the next 5 in the same, the next 4 different, the next 2 the same, and the following 2 different. The different columns are always randomized. Understanding this pattern can remove some of the intensity of the activity. For a visual example, see below (Left, Middle, Right):

The exact spots are randomized, but the pattern is always the same.
The fishing interaction automatically ceases if the inventory becomes full, the player starts cutting or clicks away, or the net is not realigned for a consecutive 30 seconds. Dropping fish does not stop the interaction. If boosting for 78 Fishing, the requirement is only checked when starting the fishing, allowing a single boost to provide indefinite use of the activity as long as the interaction is not ended, though this precludes cutting them.
Dropping mid-cycle keeps the inventory clear enough to cut remaining leechfins between cycles, as there is enough time for 6–7 to be cut before the next begins. This method provides the full Fishing experience rate, as well as upwards of 25,000 Cooking experience and 400+ blood sacs per hour.

Development history
Leechfin fishing was originally proposed in Update:Blood Moon Rises Rewards as an ingredient for the leechfin sandwich, a complex and powerful new food. The act of leechfin fishing itself was polled in Poll:The Winter Summit Poll and passed with 92.6% approval, while the sandwich was later polled in Poll:Blood Moon Rises Rewards Poll and failed at 68.3% approval. Leechfin fishing was re-proposed as a standalone fishing reward in Update:Leechfin Fishing Proposal Revised, with a later update specifying the high experience rate and adding the alternative blood vial acquisition path. The revised proposal was polled in Poll:Leechfin Fishing Lock-in Poll, where it passed with 85.8% approval.

Trivia
- Leechfin have an eat option, but are not able to be eaten. When the player tries to do so, they get a message that says "That would be a unwise. Maybe in a sandwich... No, nevermind."
- This line is a reference to the leechfin sandwich, a proposed food item that would have been made using leechfin that did not pass polling.
