Ur-maggots are a species of creature native to Vampyrium. They are parasitic maggots which hatch within the body of their hosts and kill them, taking over their nervous system and puppeteering the body.
Their life cycle begins with eggs, which are laid on corpses, waiting for scavengers to eat them. Once consumed, the eggs hatch into larvae inside the host and feed on its blood to grow. Ultimately, only one larvae will survive, and when it pupates, it anchors itself to the host's nervous system. When the pupa emerges from its chrysalis, the host dies, and the ur-maggot takes control of the corpse. In that stage, known as the Progenitor stage, the ur-maggot will hunt and kill a victim, laying its eggs on the corpse so the cycle can continue.[1]
Very rarely, ur-maggots in the Progenitor stage will reach a final form,[2] becoming a Maggot King, which are very destructive.

- Ur-maggots were first mentioned in the RuneScape 3 story The Old Blood, from a vampyre being described as wearing leather made from ur-maggots.
