Demonic Brutus is the hard mode variant of Brutus that can be fought by having an abyssal potato in the inventory, after which the game will send a prompt asking the player if they would like to feed it to him. Because abyssal potatoes only come from plucking the growth found within the Scar, fighting Demonic Brutus requires completion of Desert Treasure II - The Fallen Empire.

His only drop is a cosmetic pair of Brutus slippers and an increased drop rate for Beef.

Strategy

Unlike Brutus, Demonic Brutus' basic melee attack can hit through Protect from Melee, with a max hit of 4. He cannot be killed as part of a cow slayer task, and is immune to stat drains and enchanted bolt effects. Additionally, despite his name, Demonic Brutus is not classified as a demon.

After three basic attacks, Brutus will use one of two special attacks —Demonic Stomp and Demonic Charge; which one he chooses initially is random, but it will alternate between the two special attacks afterward for the remainder of the fight. If the player happens to deal more than ~100 damage at the start of the fight, there is a chance of Demonic Brutus starting his special attack after only two basic attacks. The first attack has a chance of starting either West or South of the player. If West, all special attacks throughout the fight will start either to the West or East of the player, swapping after every use of Demonic Charge. If South, then the same mechanics apply, but instead swapping between North and South of the player instead.

The player will have a few ticks to move out of the way of each special attack, but this reaction time is shortened upon Brutus reaching 500 (66.6%) health. Brutus and his ghosts will normally attack in a clockwise pattern during special attacks, but will move in a counter-clockwise pattern upon reaching 250 (33.3%) health instead during both phase 1 and 2.

Once Brutus' health reaches 0, he will exclaim moo moo! and heal himself by 487 hitpoints to begin phase 2 of the fight, which is near-identical to the first, except now every special attack is accompanied by four projectiles which land on the player whenever each ghost attacks. The first three projectiles are always magic-melee-ranged, with the fourth being random.

Trivia

  • Like many other of the boss's references to the assassination of Julius Caesar, Demonic Brutus' ghostly form may reference the Ghost of Caesar, who manifests before Brutus in Act IV of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare.
  • As of 27 February 2026, Brutus and his demonic variant had killed players a total of 153,350 times, of which 35 of those were hardcore ironmen. The reclaim cost from these deaths also totaled 44,200,000,000 coins.
