Clams are located in the Underwater area of Fossil Island. They are part of the Underwater Agility and Thieving training activity. When in their opened state, players can search them for a chance to receive glistening tears and mermaid's tears. Successfully searching a clam also rewards a small amount of Agility and Thieving experience. Failing a search will either display the message You jerk back as something nibbles your hand. with no additional effect, or the message You jerk back as something nibbles your hand and lose some breath., depleting the player's oxygen level.
Additionally, players can keep searching the same chest multiple times, until it closes. For these extra searches, there is a 1/8.5 chance to receive one of each tear.
