Trolls can be assigned as a Slayer task at 60 combat level by various Slayer masters. Trolls are, for the most part, found in the Fremennik Province and north of Burthorpe.

Trolls fought in quests all count towards the Slayer task, with the exception of sea trolls. The bosses can be fought again in the Nightmare Zone.

Players who have completed the hard Morytania Diary might want to bring the bonecrusher to gain passive Prayer experience from the big bones drops. Players with 92 Magic and the Arceuus spellbook may opt to use the Sinister Offering spell instead.

The neutral tile marker one tile north indicates a possible cannon placement for thrower trolls.

There are two types of trolls that players can fight for a troll task: mountain trolls and ice trolls.

Mountain trolls are found in many locations, primarily around the Fremennik Province, though a group of fourteen trolls are also found in Mount Quidamortem. The Mount Quidamortem trolls can be easily accessed with the Xeric's talisman if players have received an ancient tablet from the Chambers of Xeric unlocking the Xeric's Honour teleport, although using the Lovakengj Minecart Network teleport or nearby fairy ring are also suitable.

Other variants include thrower trolls and troll generals, however these are scarce, far, and have nonexistent drops.

The other trolls, ice trolls, can be found in the Ice Path, Trollweiss Dungeon, and the isles north of Neitiznot and Jatizso.

The trolls in the Ice Path are not worth killing, as these are far stronger than other trolls and have incredibly poor drops for their level. Instead, players are advised to kill the trolls on the isles, as they are weaker, have a slightly better drop table, and are found in larger quantities in an open multicombat area. If killing trolls here, prayer and a Neitiznot shield are required in order to reduce damage taken from the ice troll females, who are much more accurate and damaging if not using a Neitiznot shield. Out of the two isles, it may be preferable to kill the trolls north of Jatizso, as the trolls there will often focus on the guards fighting them, which will lower the damage the player receives. Additionally, the bank on Jatizso is slightly closer to the troll area than it is on Neitiznot.

Regardless of the troll being killed, a dwarf multicannon is highly recommended as trolls have low aggression range.

One quick way to complete a trolls task for players not using a dwarf multicannon is to kill the ice troll runts in the first island north of Neitiznot. This method requires completion of The Fremennik Trials to access Neitiznot. There are several guards nearby constantly fighting the trolls, who deal considerable damage and will help speed up kills. They also keep the trolls distracted so that players are able to range or mage without utilising safespots. Note that if guards deal the finishing blow, the Slayer experience received is halved, but drops are still received as long as the player dealt any damage. Fire spells are recommended, as ice trolls have a fire weakness of 100%.

Equipment

Ice trolls in the Trollweiss dungeon can comfortably be fought without a Neitiznot shield and have a 100% elemental weakness to fire spells, making maging them particularly effective, although more expensive. Mountain trolls only have a 50% elemental weakness to fire spells, with worse value drops, but due to their lower health, can be a better option to finish a task quickly.

Ice trolls are slightly resistant to slash attacks, making stab and crush weapons typically favoured here. When combined with a Dwarf multicannon, killing ice trolls can be a reasonably fast task with reasonable drops, although care needs to be taken due to the unavoidable damage.

  1. ^ 1.0 1.1 with a Crush weapon only
  2. ^ With Inquisitor's armour this will provide the highest DPS, although with a significant compromise to ranged defence

Meleeing mountain trolls is an easy and accessible option for a Troll task with no quest requirements to complete, and with all damage able to be completely negated through Protect from Melee. Protect from melee and Piety are strongly recommended, although forgoing one or both and using Bones to peaches is viable, albeit significantly slower. Thralls and Death charge on the Arceuus spellbook can be used to speed up the task significantly, in addition to a Dwarf multicannon. This also allows players to use Adept reanimation on any ensouled troll heads received on the task. Players may also wish to use equipment such as Sunfire fanatic armour, Proselyte, or Initiate armour to maximise prayer bonus, especially if combined with a Bonecrusher necklace to minimise prayer potion usage.
