The tome of fire is a book held in place of a shield that is a possible reward from the Reward cart upon subduing the Wintertodt. The tome of fire requires level 50 in Magic to wield.

The tome is only tradeable when empty. When it is empty, its only function is its magic attack and magic defence equipment bonuses.

Empty tomes can be traded in for 250 burnt pages per tome (value of 1,453,000) by speaking to Ignisia.

This item counts as a warm item at the Wintertodt.

If lost to another player in a dangerous PVP death, all charges inside will be converted into pages and dropped for the killer alongside the empty tome.

Charging

The tome can hold 1,000 pages. Players can configure the amount of charges on withdrawal by right-clicking the tome while the tome is in the bank and selecting Configure-Charges.

The tome can be charged with burnt pages, with each page adding 20 charges at a cost of 290.60 per charge. (It costs 5,812,000 to fully charge.)

The tome can alternatively be charged with searing pages, with each page adding 20 charges at a cost of 929.15 per charge. (It costs 18,583,000 to fully charge)

Only one type of page can be in the tome at once; searing pages cannot be added to a tome that is partially filled with burnt pages for example.

Pages can be removed from the tome, but if one or more charges are used from a page, the page will be entirely consumed upon removal.

Effects

When the tome has at least one charge, it acts as an infinite source of fire runes while equipped. Using it as a source of fire runes for non-combat spells does not consume any charges.

Casting fire spells with a charged tome equipped will increase the spell's damage by 10% against NPCs and 50% against players (multiplicative with magic damage bonus from equipment) and consume one charge per spell. The bonus applies only to the standard spellbook's fire spells (Fire Strike, Fire Bolt, Fire Blast, Fire Wave, and Fire Surge). Other combat spells that use fire runes such as Iban Blast, Flames of Zamorak, Undead Grasp, Demonbane, and smoke spells do not benefit from the bonus and do not consume any charges, but still receive the infinite fire runes.

When charged with searing pages, the minimum hit increases from 0 to 10% of the spell's maximum hit. The +10% damage bonus from the tome of fire is not included when calculating the minimum hit.

Trivia

In the Old School Content Poll #46, the tome of fire was proposed to have dragonfire protection as well, similar to an anti-dragon shield. It only received 56.7% votes in favour, 18.3% short of passing the poll.
