Why Fletch? is a hard combat achievement which requires the player to subdue the Wintertodt after earning 3000 or more points during the fight.

Strategy

The player will need to attempt this in either a solo or small group scale setting, since the Wintertodt-designated worlds will always complete before the necessary points are acquired.

This will be a battle of attrition as the player will need to delay reducing Wintertodt's Energy levels to 0 for as long as possible to avoid completing the fight prematurely. In order to do so, the braziers will go largely under utilised, which will make Wintertodt a greater threat than it typically is.

Healing

Prior to beginning the fight, make 8-10 rejuvenation potions in the lobby. Each dose restores 30% Warmth, meaning each potion restores a total of 120%. This will be more than enough for both the player and the pyromancers.

Points

As the achievement name implies, Fletching isn't a bad way to gain the 3000 points needed for this achievement. The safest way to fletch is either stand by a single brazier in order to keep it lit for its damage reduction, or to position the player at the borderline between the safe entrance and the arena. Note that you cannot fletch within the safe area as you will get the message stating the player's too cold and need to move closer to the braziers, but staying close to the safe area can be used as a means to take cover after the player's redemption is triggered to safely restore prayer and heal when needed before returning to the arena proper.

The player will need to fletch 120 logs into kindling in order to reach exactly 3000 points, but you can do a little less if choosing to keep Wintertodt's energy high throughout the fight, as the player will earn a significant amount of points just from relighting the braziers and healing the pyromancers.

As the player only has to get 3000 points, the achievement can be tackled in a smaller group setting if needed.

Equipment

Aside from 4 items of warm clothing, other useful items include the regen bracelet and Hitpoints cape for their improved Warmth recovery rate which will be invaluable as a long term source of recovery. The player will also want to take as many items that increase Prayer bonus as possible for Rapid Heal.

Other tasks

There are 8 Combat Achievement tasks (totalling 13 points) available for Wintertodt.

Trivia

  • The achievement name is a reference to a meme within Wintertodt, where players on mass worlds would ask why players fletch the logs, and it has since become an ironically repeated question.
