Crazy archaeologist/Strategies
A player fights Bellock, the crazy archaeologist.

The crazy archaeologist is a relatively simple boss, but a simple mistake can cause some damage to you with his area of effect attack.

The most effective way is to use Magic while Protecting from Missiles and avoiding his area of effect attack. His area of effect attack casts 3 books into the air that slowly land and hit a 3x3 area. This area is centred around where the books land. It is preceded by the crazy archaeologist yelling "Rain of knowledge!".

It is recommended to bring low value gear such as monk robes for Prayer bonus as even with the crazy archaeologist's somewhat high Magic defence, his Magic level is negligible, and thus is weak to Magic and your own Magic accuracy matters little. This is because Magic defence is calculated primarily based on one's Magic level.[1]

While you can melee him, he will start using melee attacks in addition to ranged ones when you are close. This extra damage, along with a shorter reaction time to the "Rain of knowledge!" attack means you will need to resupply more often and have less supplies for player killers.

Alternatively the crazy archaeologist can be killed without taking damage. This can be done by luring him behind the obstacles to the north of the area, attacking him and quickly running back behind the obstacle (flinching).

Equipment

The setup focuses on only taking 3 or 4 expensive items as this boss is located in the Wilderness with the possibility of player killers appearing. Although the Crazy Archaeologist wanders between levels 22 and 25 Wilderness, meaning you can teleport out, you can still get teleblocked or killed before you are able to teleport.

With a powered staff, a magic boost such as Magic potion, Forgotten brew, or Saturated or Imbued heart will provide a bigger damage increase than additional magic damage gear.

  1. ^ Only while on a Slayer task.
  2. ^ Will be lost on death above 20 wilderness.
  3. ^ 3.0 3.1 Replace with an imbued/saturated heart if using a powered staff.
