The rune scimitar is a scimitar requiring level 40 Attack to wield. It can be created with 2 runite bars at level 90 Smithing, or dropped by various monsters such as Zamorak warriors or Fire giants.
It is the second strongest scimitar available behind the Dragon scimitar, and the strongest scimitar in free-to-play. Furthermore, it is considered the strongest melee weapon in most situations in free-to-play due to its unmatched attack and strength bonuses for its attack speed.
Ironmen may prefer to create a barronite mace or purchase a rune sword from the Champions' Guild (requiring 32 Quest points). Members-only alternatives to the rune scimitar include the rapier (after Cabin Fever), brine sabre, and ancient staff (after Desert Treasure I).
Players can attach a Guthix, Saradomin or Zamorak ornament kit, obtained from beginner Treasure Trails, to create a Guthix, Saradomin and Zamorak rune scimitar, respectively. This only alters its appearance, and gives no stat enhancements, though the Saradomin and Zamorak variants will provide protection from the respective factions in the God Wars Dungeon. It can be dismantled at any time, returning the scimitar and ornament kit.
