Dragon boots are melee footwear requiring 60 Defence to wear. Like most other dragon items, they cannot be made using the Smithing skill.

Dragon boots offer the third-highest strength bonus of any boots in the game, while also offering some of the best defensive stats available for the feet slot. Coupled with their affordable price, they are popular among players for all melee combat purposes, even after all other Dragon armour being used has been replaced.

Upgrades

Dragon boots can be upgraded with a primordial crystal, obtained as a rare drop from Cerberus, to create a pair of primordial boots. Doing so requires level 60 Runecraft and Magic.

Players can also cosmetically upgrade their dragon boots with either a dragon boots ornament kit to create the gold-trimmed dragon boots (g), or a Bounty hunter ornament kit to create the dragon boots (cr) Both changes are reversible, returning the boots and ornament kit to the player.

Trivia

During development of the God Wars Dungeon in Old School RuneScape, it was proposed that dragon boots be created by using a shard of dragon metal on rune boots, rather than as a direct drop in its original 2007 iteration. As the resulting poll only received 52.5% out of the 75% support required, it was made as a direct drop.
