A dragon keel is a core boat part that increases the hitpoints and armour of a boat. It is built via the boat schematics board at the Shipyard after reading the dragon keel schematic, requiring level 97 Sailing and 87 Construction, granting a variable amount of Construction experience depending on the type of boat.

While sharing the same health value as the rune keel, the dragon keel has an armour rating 200 higher than the rune keel's 800. Because every 100 points of armour provide an increase of flat armour rating of 1, any boat equipped with it has a flat armour rating of 10, subtracting 10 damage from every single incoming hit, and negating any damage hit of 10 or less.

As such, a boat with a dragon keel built will only ever take damage from spined krakens, armoured krakens, veiled krakens, vampyre krakens, orcas, and great white sharks.
