The crystal extractor is a boat facility that periodically generates wind motes for a wind or gale catcher. It can be built at specific facility hotspots on the boat, requiring level 73 Sailing and 67 Construction, granting 3,066 Construction experience. Though boosts can be used to build the facility, the extractor requires a Heart of Ithell to build, so players must also have 72 Sailing to clear the Shark rank of the Gwenith Glide Barracuda Trial.

Players can only build one crystal extractor on their boat.

Mechanics

Every 109 ticks (65.4s), players can harvest one wind mote from the crystal extractor, granting 250 Sailing experience. If Song of the Elves has been completed, harvesting also grants a ~1/6 chance of obtaining one crystal shard (two if sailing in crystal-flecked waters). Players can harvest from the extractor for the experience and shards even if a wind or gale catcher is not built on the boat.

Harvesting from the extractor takes 4 game ticks (2.4s), and interruptions, such as performing another action such as steering the boat, will cancel the harvesting process. Performing an action via the sailing options sidepanel (such as releasing a wind mote) does not cause an interruption. Players can only harvest from the extractor when activated and outside the area of the bank boat.

If players harvest from the extractor every time they are able to when at sea (such as when salvaging shipwrecks or running Barracuda Trials), players will gain an additional 13,761 experience per hour (or 14,103 experience per hour if using a Keg of Horizon's lure).

Placement

The location of the extractor on the boat is important depending on preferred use case. To be used while operating the helm, the extractor must be in exact position depending on the type of boat:

  • For a sloop, the crystal extractor must be positioned diagonally to the left (port side) of the helm.
  • For a skiff, the extractor must be placed directly beside the helm to the right (starboard side, in the only hotspot that allows an anchor)

If optimising extractor usage for shipwreck salvaging or deep sea trawling, place it adjacent to the salvaging hook or trawling net; specifically, the left (port side) on a sloop.

Creation

The Heart of Ithell is not consumed when building this facility.
