Lantern harpooning

Lantern harpooning is a Fishing activity released with Sailing, requiring at least 47 Sailing and 52 Fishing. Players can use any harpoon (barehanded fishing does not work) and any lit lantern to catch squids at specific fishing spots. These spots are located at The Onyx Crest, Laguna Aurorae, Wintumber Island and Buccaneers' Haven, which require certain Sailing levels to access. An equipable harpoon and lantern may be used to save inventory space.

Players with 52 Fishing can catch swordtip squid, while players with 69 Fishing can catch jumbo squid as well.

Squids can be cooked into food, crushed into squid paste, or cut into fish offcuts. Cutting squid may also rarely produce a squid beak. Squid paste can be used to make haemostatic dressings, fish offcuts can be used as bait while deep sea trawling, and squid beaks can be used to make blowpipes.

If going for squid paste, players can bring a fish barrel, a pestle and mortar, and an empty reagent pouch for longer trips. Fishing at the Onyx Crest or Buccaneers' Haven is suggested, as a bank can be built at these locations.

If going for the squid beak, players can bring a knife or fletching knife to cut the squid into stackable fish offcuts to avoid needing to bank.

When lantern harpooning at level 86 Fishing on The Onyx Crest with the Angler's outfit, Crystal harpoon, Lightbearer, Fish barrel, and when banking all fish, players can expect ~30k Fishing xp/hr and to catch ~400 fish/hr. At 78 Fishing on The Onyx Crest (afk banking), same setup as before, players can expect ~20k Fishing xp/hr and ~305 squid/hr. In-game testing resulted in 39% Raw Jumbo Squids, and 61% Raw Swordtips.

Tick manipulation methods are possible to speed up lantern harpooning from a six-tick action (with a regular harpoon) to two, three, or four ticks:

• 4 ticks: auto-retaliate a praying mantis with a shortbow equipped, set to rapid with no ammo. Click the fishing spot immediately after the hitsplat appears. This requires one click every 2.4 seconds and no mouse movement.
• 3 ticks: use a knife on a teak log or create herb tar; see 3-tick fishing. This requires one click every 0.6 seconds, frequent mouse movement, and high focus. Repeat the following cycle to roll for fish every three ticks:

• 2 ticks: there are no fishing spots in multicombat areas, but players can use an alt to attack them with darts on a PvP world. This requires one click every 1.2 seconds and no mouse movement.
