The wind catcher is a boat facility that can store and release wind motes for a speed boost whilst at sea. It can be built at specific facility hotspots on the boat, requiring level 53 Sailing and 47 Construction, granting 741 Construction experience. As the catcher requires a captured wind mote to build, players must also have cleared the Shark rank of the Jubbly Jive Barracuda Trial, which cannot be attempted until level 55 Sailing.
Once built, the wind catcher must be activated in order to store wind motes. Whenever a player trims their sails, passes through a crystal mote, or harvests from a crystal extractor, a wind mote is stored in the catcher. The wind catcher can store two of these wind motes. Building a second wind catcher provides no additional benefit.
Trimming the sails with an activated wind catcher reduces the experience granted by 25%. Releasing a wind mote will grant the boat a burst of speed as if they had trimmed their sails, granting 40 Sailing experience, or 10 Sailing experience if the wind mote was generated by a crystal extractor. Players can do so by either selecting the "Release-mote" on the catcher, or via the Sailing Options tab.
The gale catcher is a superior version of the wind catcher that grants more experience and can store three motes instead of two.
Creation
The captured wind mote is not consumed when building this facility, but it must be in the player's inventory.
